  3. Started by Spink,

I've just been looking at a few of the guppies I have actually kept (my breeding tank broke so I've had to keep them in a temporary home while I fix it! ) and I have a few that look like they could be really neat to breed from! I have tuxedos, some wild ones, some orange/white/yellow that have a platinum look...I'm looking forward to doing some breeding now too! What strains/types do you have so far?

HI All Again, Was reading a few of the older posts in this forum and a couple f them mentioned a guppy society being set up, just wondering if this has ever happened or was it just thoughts in the wind and wishful thinking. Cheers B

Hi Folks, Now that there are confirmed real Endler's livebearers in New Zealand, I toured the fish shops in Auckland and there are still some available for sale. I also found some of the same type of endlers in the "cold water guppy" tanks usually used as feeder fish! I have not confirmed the source of these venezuelan guppies (and the feeder fish) but I suspect the endlers have been in NZ for a long time and somebody (the source) has been breeding them. In the past I have looked at some of the guppys from the thermal springs near Rotorua and some of those fish have really good colours almost the same as the venezuelan (endlers) guppies. Your thoughts....

Well, as some of you already know, I have been able to get my hands on 8 female Albino guppies. (I have however been unsuccessful at getting any males) These are the best photos that I can get from a downward angle into breeding nets (their temporary homes while I sort out my breeding corner) with a pxt cell phone. This is 7 of my 8 girls. And another pic of them in case that one didn't work. This is my largest female and the male I'm trying to outcross with. And another pic of the same to give you a better look at the male. And this is my nearly set up breeding corner. (Platty breeding tank at the back with light on.) Will update here as to …

I have managed to get myself a white/platinum male but he has a tiny tiny bit of orange/gold on him. I want to breed him to try to make his descendants lose the orange/gold colour in them. But I don't understand all the genetics jargon , so what I am asking is... Is there anyone here that knows and understands about guppy genetics and if so what colour/type female should I put with him to get what I want? Also while on this subject I have a half red with snakeskin body that I also want to try to make more red through breeding....any thoughts? Thanks Ange

The purpose of this thread is to encourage experienced fishkeepers to comment on their experience about the reality or lack of it of coldwater guppies. I don't want to stick ideas in people's heads so I won't say any more. Please answer the poll and post if you want to add any comments.

    Started by Guest Cam,

I was just wondering what the largest number of babies that someones got from one livebearer (doesn't matter if it's a mollie, guppy swordtail, platy). The most I've got from a platy was 98 and none of them were still borns but I usually get about 40-50 out of my smaller females. So what the largest number you've ever had?

  19. Started by aquadude,

:bounce: My wife is sooooo happy ( she now calls herself a guppy nana ) I had the female guppy in a breeding floating tank - and last night found 8 fry in the bottom layer ( under the V plate ). Shall I leave "mum" in this breeding tank for a few days in case she drops more? How long should I keep the fry in this breeding tank .how many days / weeks before I can put the fry in the community tank so that they are old/big enough to not look like food food? Thanks for the hints and suggestions
