	I just got some or what I think are endler from my local pet shop. They had them in the male guppy tank and hey we're about half the size and not fancy.  They also had a tiny little girl in there that I got for free

<p>I've read both YES and NO all over the internet while trying to look for a credible answer. Alas...I am still not sure whether they do. It was my impression that this was a myth due to the females being able to hold sperm for so long thus confusing pet owners into thinking she must have been impregnated by another female tank mate. </p><p>
</p><p>
However, the closest credible reference was this: <a href="http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/pub/IMPFreshwater/IMPFreshwaterPage06.php?0506" rel="external nofollow">http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/pub/IMPF ... 6.php?0506</a></p><p>
...which says that they can!</p><p>
</p><p>
I still don't believe it...</p><p>
Anyone got proof? hehe</p><p>
I've even tried to search peer reviewed journals but nada!</p>

	So I am getting a bit bored with my mbuna and am thinking about switching to livebearers. I wouldn't want a gaggle of different color morphs in the same tank that randomly interbreed. I would also prefer to buy from a reputable breeder rather than Animates or HFF.<br /><br />
	Who breeds livebearers that breed true? Auckland area or shipped.
</p>

<p>
	I am willing to compromise on species and color morph as long as it's good stock. Ideally I would want large swordtails that are red with a black tail. But could go all red, or platies, or...<br /><br />
	Many thanks for any and all suggestions!<span> </span>

	How would you rank them in order from the most simple to the most challenging to keep a breeding population going?
</p>

<p>
	In my experience, I have little to no trouble with keeping endler and platy going. My white-ish swordtails look like they're heading in the same direction with their fry growing up quick.
</p>

<p>
	It's the mollies I had trouble keeping for some reason, they don't seem to fare well as other livebearers in 200L tank full of java fern and moss. They just kind of slowly vanish without leaving any offsprings. Is there something specific to mollies care that I wasn't aware of? Supposedly their care should be same as for other livebearers, but it didn't feel like the case for me.
</p>

<p>
	Apart from guppy, platy, swordtails, mollies, and leopardfish, are there other type of livebearers available in New Zealand? I read about halfbeaks in older topic but I don't think I ever seen them in aquarium however. Gambusia is a major no-go for obvious reason <span><img alt=":P" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://aquariumworld.nz/forums/uploads/emoticons/tongue.png" srcset="https://aquariumworld.nz/forums/uploads/emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" title=":P" width="20" /> </span>

	Seachem Bra.   Salt. I have rain water so no minerals .. hardens.. and I find these excellent product. Without this I can not have gappy and I love tham.

<p>
	i change hips of water because I’m breeding tham. And seachem salt is so expensive in that chase. Is there some cheaper options?

	so I've had this one male guppy, he's a wild type guppy for a few months now and today I got him a female fancy guppy to see if they would mate. They're in a community tank with one female betta and 3 neon tetras, I plan to move the neon tetras if I get any fry. So far the male has been trying to make a move on her but I think she might be resisting, either that or it's normal, I'm not sure as I don't have any experience in breeding yet. Could she been pregnant already? I got her from a place that separated males and females but she could have already mated with a male before being separated, I really am not sure. The male was going at her nonstop for about an hour when I first introduced her in the tank but stopped for a while after, he's back it again though. I DO want to breed them so if you guys could give some tips then that would be great! one other thing, the betta is quite docile and doesn't ever attack the other fish in the tank except for a quick chase at the male guppy a couple times a day and she also only goes up to the female guppy and the female guppy just swims away, and the neons, she doesn't bother with them as they're much too quick for her and she knows it

<p>I have been working on developing my own strain of Lyretail/ Double-Sword Medusa guppy for the past year or so, and have now achieved some success with a few males showing the colours and patterns I want.</p><p>To create what I want I have had to combine 3 strains of Guppy - Vienna Emerald Green Double Sword (original stock of 2 males from a pet shop), Golden Lace Snakeskin (TM purchases), and Schim Platinum (thanks to caserole for these)</p><p>So I crossed the Platinum males over females from the D.sword &amp; snakeskin lines over several generations, selecting heavily as they started to look more like what I wanted.</p><p>The females seemed to be the key as they carried the swordtailed genes, and eventually the snakeskin (x-linked) genes as well. The platinum comes from males only, so those were easier to see.</p><p>The 2 photos are of the selected males for the next generation - photos were taken a few months ago and now I have the next generation of fry and eagerly waiting to see how well this gene complex passes on through the generations.</p><p> </p><p><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="//d34ertxn6vh7by.cloudfront.net/i.aquariumworld.nz/monthly_2016_02/2016_Medusa_male_Gen_1_DSCN5114.jpg.fa6f1c3bdbf05acbbc5f0a1fda512da4.jpg" rel="external nofollow"><img data-fileid="714" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="2016 Medusa male Gen 1 DSCN5114.jpg" src="https://d34ertxn6vh7by.cloudfront.net/i.aquariumworld.nz/monthly_2016_02/2016_Medusa_male_Gen_1_DSCN5114.thumb.jpg.b3ddc3b99ea1fca6c5be1f7ac7d468ca.jpg"></a></p><p><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="//d34ertxn6vh7by.cloudfront.net/i.aquariumworld.nz/monthly_2016_02/2016_Medusa_male_Gen_1_DSCN5118.jpg.a936b6f7b1d0a9416c2745be19649d8c.jpg" rel="external nofollow"><img data-fileid="715" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="2016 Medusa male Gen 1 DSCN5118.jpg" src="https://d34ertxn6vh7by.cloudfront.net/i.aquariumworld.nz/monthly_2016_02/2016_Medusa_male_Gen_1_DSCN5118.thumb.jpg.5312eaf631a08a64ca1f8ec8d4bf32dd.jpg"></a></p>

<p>I've got a few of these guppies that seem to shine golden when the light is on them. Even as fry you could tell the difference between them and other fish. Are these what they call blonds? </p>

<p>Hey all,</p><p>Looking to start a tropical tank with the excuse to the mrs that it's for the kids but she knows it's really for me haha. Wanting to see if there are any breeders in West Auckland that won't mind me popping over to see what they have and sparing a few to start up my tank.</p><p>Thanks all!</p>
