  1. I can not grow java fern in a well lit tank - low light or no light, it grows well and looks great. Do you have some plants that can shelter it from the bright lighting, and also I assume it is attached to wood or rock and not planted in the substrate. TBH - if it is not dying then it is probably happy and healthy. It does take many, many months to establish. The fact it is producing pups suggests all is well.
  2. What sort of lighting is on your tank and what's your pH?
  3. What do you mean they haven't grown new leaves at all. Plantlets are the new leaves.
  4. Java fern is very slow growing. All the new leaves come through lighter/brighter green and darken as they mature. It looks very normal for java fern to me.
  5. You can hatch cory eggs in an ice-cream container, pegged to the side of your tank with an airline and meth blue in it. Change some of the water every few days being careful not to suck up any newly hatched fry. I kept mine in there for quite a while, just be careful not to foul the water with left over food scraps.
  6. Apparently if you have green spot algae then you are lucky as thats the best algae to get, if you have to have any.
  7. Dwarf Puffers are cannibals. If two of your group pair off they will pick off the others during the dark hours. They love ramshorn snails, so start breeding in plenty of time. Some of the other puffers prefer brackish.
  8. If you can, test your nitrate and phosphate levels and give the substrate a really good vacuum (not going to work very well if the tank is heavily planted). The algae uses silicates to grow so another option would be to use a phosphate remover in your filter media. Or depending on what fish you have you could get some otocinclus as they love the stuff
  9. Is it a newly set up tank?
  10. Not of those Swordtails. There have been no breedings registered of Berlin Black ever, to my knowledge. 2002 was the last time they were even listed on this forum as someone having them. If you are wondering how I found it out go to the search function on the top right of this page, open it and put the words Berlin Black in. You might like to have a rummage around and see what else comes up.
  11. I'm thinking its a crypt in front of the RTL.
  12. Thats a nice looking set up you have
  13. Sorry for the delay in replying - there is New Pupuke Aquarium Centre in Northcote, Pet Stop shops, Bird Barn, Animates. You also could get a tank made to your requirements.

    Live rock

If you go to our trade and exchange section on the forum you will see that one of our forum members has 20kg of it for sale, and at a very fair price.
  15. That was going to be my question - Borneo are temperate fish - temperature around 18 - 22, good current like a flowing stream preferred, soft substrate and rocks with algae on to graze on. Fighters are warm water fish - temps 26 - 28 preferred and don't like current. It is possible your fighter is 'nipping' at the borneo sucker during lights out. I've seen them take out bn fry at about 1.5cm by persistent nipping. He's pretty nice looking
  16. I don't 'do' LED lighting however the feedback I have heard on these tanks is that the filter struggles to create water movement due to the length of the tank. If you were wanting to put lots of plants in you would probably have to put a filter on the other end as well to stop dead spots.
  17. I had it in my tank for about four years - kept sterbai cory (no issues), bn, king tiger plecs, chocolate zebra plecs, tiger plecs, butterfly plecs (also no issues).
  18. I love paper magazines. Our AW world has a printed option but only two people subscribe to it Most seem to prefer getting the online free with their FNZAS membership.
  19. haha! Mark your tanks are looking great.
