  1. Very hard to get the fry to survive so it may take you several attempts. They really need to be in a species only tank. Try sending Jennifer a pm - she breeds them but I believe they are hard work.
  2. If any species of fish is not on The List then it has not been approved, by MPI, as a species that is currently allowed in the country. Just because a fish is not on the current list does not mean it has never been on it. There are species in the country, including goldfish, that came in many years ago and are still in existence. Just like fish that are on the list, that doesn't mean they are here or will ever come here, it just means they are allowed in.
  3. Excellent thank you Insect Direct.
  4. Oh, no wonder. The only time we were in South Africa was at the International part of the airport. Rest of the time we were in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. Can't wait to see the rest of the photos
  5. Yes. That's what I thought Alan as I did find a reference to all bylaws remaining until review in October 2015 which is why I advise caution. I do see the trade of them is going on up here by reading other sites but I wouldn't personally take the risk. Unfortunately the Super City needs some Super Staff with Super Knowledge to assist with the queries from its Super Residents!
  6. Where in Africa? I was there two years ago but didn't see any aquarium that looked like that!
  7. Keeping them friendly means daily handling. Good food and water and cover. Get a young rabbit - one is fine and if its a female less chance of it already being pregnant. More work for you (from personal experience)
  8. haha - of course!! Apparently the council pass any 'live' enquiries to DOC - native or not
  9. Thanks Rabbit. I looked - it's not. I phoned the Council who had no idea what I was talking about and told me to phone DOC. DOC told me it was the Council. It was a generic enquiry as to whether or not they were allowed. I would be careful about it though, just because you can't see it in writing on the internet does not mean the rule is no longer in force.
  10. Happy to help. If you can fit carbon in with the sponges you still have then all good Post a pic when you can. We love pics!
  11. It is illegal to keep Blue Tongues in the Auckland region so unfortunately either you will need to shift elsewhere or look for a different type of Reptile.
  12. Your tank is pretty well stocked - mine has 8 young angels in it, 6 young cory and 2 young bn. I suspect the fine particles you are finding in the bottom of your filter tray is sand being picked up however if the fine filter wool is fully covering your filter trays then I would have expected it not to get through but as we know sand can get through the smallest gaps. I only run the carbon cartridges and noodles in mine. The stacking should be from the top fine down to coarse with the fine being rinsed out weekly under tank water as it should be blocking waste from getting through to the noodles allowing them to do their job. Possibly you have had the filter packed too tightly preventing the water from actually passing through the media. However black backgrounds do show every particle that is loose in the tank. You could try adding carbon and removing more of your sponges. Carbon is a 'polisher' which should help clear up your tank. Be aware that once the carbon is full it will absorb no more and will need replacing. What are you feeding and how much? How often do you water change and how much? I wanted the 980T but the difference in price was just too much for 35 litres more
  13. You will have to drill your 980 in order to make the holes for your tubing to go into the tank. If your tank is under warranty the warranty will end the moment you do this. You would be able to get the intake and outlet piping through the holes where the power head and filter outlets currently sit but the plastic of the current filter area will need holes in it to get the rest of the fittings in. Why do you want to put a canister filter on? I have the 980 and the filter is more than adequate for a standard tropical tank.

    Small Tank

Small is harder to maintain the correct parameters. I am new to marines so not the right person to answer the rest of the questions.
  15. This forum has a really good search function Try this link which popped up when I typed aviverm in Search - hope it helps you There are possibly better meds available than aviverm but it might work depending on the type of worm viewtopic.php?f=25&t=62578&p=676582&hilit=aviverm#p676582

  18. I've found the brochure - If you pass away without a Will your loved ones may face difficulty sorting out your wishes. And, what happens may not be what you would want or expect. The law determines what happens to the people who depend on you, and how your estate is divided. The people you care about most could miss out. And, it could take a long time and cost a lot of money to resolve which may cause extra distress for those you love. I don't know the age of your father or if he belongs to any Senior Groups i.e. Age Concern, Grey Power, GSA - but if he does belong to one of those he may well have a Will. Whether it is up to date or not.
  19. I am the Auckland Government Superannuitants Association Secretary and at our meeting yesterday we had speakers from the Public Trust speaking on Wills and also Power of Attorney. From my understanding, if your father dies without a Will no one will have right to the money/estate and it will end up with the Lawyers taking a heap of it through fees and going through the courts. Those who think they should be entitled to the proceeds or estate will be required to put in a claim. It would be a good idea to broach the subject with your father as he may not realise this. He also may not realise that if he does not make a Will then its up to the courts to decide who will benefit which may well be the opposite of what he wants. His wife may be wrong, or he may not want to discuss this with you but the second sentence of this paragraph may change his mind. He will also need to name an Executor of his Estate. We were advised yesterday to tier this i.e. have two separate Executors - No. 1 and No. 2 then if Executor 1 pre deceases or dies at the same time, Executor 2 is there to take it over. Public Trust do not charge for the first appointment for advice. Then there is a set fee for the writing of the Will. From what some of our members said yesterday they are considerably cheaper than a lot of law firms (but that just may be up here in Auckland).
  20. You would probably be best to start your own thread as those who responded to the first two posters with an ID are unlikely to read any further posts. The first photo plants are purchased and then sold as stem plants by the shops but for the life of me I cannot remember the names. The other is hydrocotyle - pretty certain Liam will know which one it is.
  21. They don't. That tank is lidded with the back lid taped on.
  22. Its nearly unheard of for a fish with dropsy to recover so good luck. Dropsy is when the internal organs shut down - lack of activity may just mean she is still not going to make it. Hopefully I am wrong.
