  1. Yes most go up for adoption or are kept here to stay forever. Some die but most pull through with good veterinary treatment and tlc
  2. such neat turtles its great to see them on the market
  3. yes i do realise some are amphibians . A lot of people simply don't want them anymore or they are sick. Just got given two red ears with set up the other day and one is very sick. Two water dragons - the owners tank broke and blue tongues are due to come in end of month where the people don't want them anymore and are in auckland and cannot sell them. They come into the rescue all shapes and sizes i have had rescue axolotls with no gills and limbs missing too, even tropical fish the elderly owner was going to flush. They come in for all sorts of reasons

  10. i received this email Hi , We’re not yet sure what will happen to Cynops species newts in NZ. Our preliminary risk assessment work suggests they do pose a risk to our native fauna, similar to the European alpine newt (see http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/pests/alpinenewt). As with any non-native species present in NZ that may pose risks to our economy, health and environment, it is possible that they may be regulated in order to address these risks. We will work with the pet industry and affected stakeholders prior to making any decision on this. 11. I heard today from a member of the herpetological Society that a revision of the exotic pet trade species is under way by the Ministry of Primary Industries. Nothing has been released yet, and I can't recall the dates...possibly November. That some species like newts will be illegal to keep captive in NZ? Can anyone confirm or deny this? thanks
