The fish that are sold in shops are the size that they get them off the importers at. Whether or not a person chooses to purchase at a small size and grow on is up to the buyer. I for one would rather purchase smaller and grow on as I then know that for the majority of the fishes life that they have had high quality food and good water conditions. If you are concerned about the size of fish being sold in the shop, have a talk to them Moving fish anywhere around the country at this time of year is risky too - was there a working heat pack in the polybox?

My RO is coming out at 2. I've just purchased a replacement carbon filter. I've had the current one for 6 months, and have produced around 450 litres of RO water so that should equate to about 1800 litres waste.

Sorry I was asleep by the time you posted last night. If the temp is still up and particularly if the heater light is on turn it down and see if it goes off. You may need a new heater if its not functioning properly. Silver dollars are happiest around 22 - 23 and your clown loaches could cope with this if the tank cools down slowly.
-
Did you or someone calibrate the heaters for you? How long have you had them in the tank? The tank is too hot for the silver dollars at 29 degrees. Check to see if the heater lights are on - if so it may be faulty. If not, turn the one set to 26 down a couple of degrees in the meantime and see if the temperature drops overnight. Your clown loaches will be able to easily handle a drop in temperature to the level your silver dollars are happier at.

I wouldn't have thought so unless they have been bred in the country in the last few years as they are not on the allowed list of imports these days. Thats assuming you are talking Placidichromus Milomo

When did you last water change? For the fish to come to the top like that there is something in the water that they are reacting to or the water is not holding enough oxygen so they come to the top where there is more water movement, therefore more oxygen exchange (this means that the water movement is letting nasty gas out and fresh oxygen in). What is your tank temperature as a hot tank can also reduce the amount of oxygen available to the fish.
-
Mines an HM - as an option on it to measure temperature as well and a hold button so you can pull it out and it won't change in the process. I don't know about the calibration but I think I need to find out. I got mine off Valray on ™. $35

Instead on panicking which is going to do neither your fish nor you any good take a breath and sit down and study your fish. Study it for around 30 minutes carefully watching its every movement. How long have you had the fish? How old is the fish? Is your fish still swimming & behaving normally? Is it still eating? Is it still pooping? What does the fish look like, any different apart from the pink spot? Where is the pink spot? Are you sure its not always been there but you haven't noticed it? What does it look like - is it raised like a pimple, or is it a hole, is it a blister, does it look like a burn? How big is the spot? What are the water parameters in your tank i.e. pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate? What are the other tank inhabitants? Have you added any new fish lately? If so what sort and did you quarantine them first? When did you last change your water? How much did you change? Did you add water conditioners at the water change? Have you done anything different over the last few weeks to what you normally do? Now we need a photo A clear photo taken side on and above. Without the above information it is impossible to even 'guess' what you might be looking at or talking about. I could tell you to add this and that to your tank, which not only will cost you heaps of money but may actually make your fish sick instead of better. In the meantime do a water change of about 30% on the tank if your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels are acceptable i.e. ammonia and nitrite 0, nitrate 10 or below. If the levels are above the ones I have given you do a 50%, then gather the information I have asked for and let us know

Try sending henward a pm. He posted on a thread in this forum that he had it.

Is there anyone on here with good knowledge on the various crypts or anubias found (allowed) in NZ?

The 'if you can find them' is a big thing. It seems near impossible to get people to 'share' plants that are hard to obtain, even if you offer big dollars for them. Such a shame, all it takes is a total tank disaster and they are lost literally forever.
-
What plants are you putting in it? I have just purchased the 980 and have planted plants that will handle the standard lighting in it. You can grow some very nice plants with the lighting but its not really (imo) worth going CO2.
-
My tank is 60 deep and I have 4 xT5HO on it and 2 x T8. The light from the T5HO gets down to the substrate enough to grow glosso well as long as I keep the taller plants from shadowing it. I have aqua basis in the substrate and use macro and micro ferts in the water column and also use pressurised CO2. T5 lighting might get down far enough for medium light plants, initially I was told the T5HO wouldn't get down 60 but it does.
-
If you are going to bother with CO2 go as high lighting as you can. You will also require ferts with it.

Mines barteri var. barteri - I was talking about the one you were asking about

If you find some real stuff let me have it

I wondered if two males together were a no no. These sorts of discussions on oddballs and ones on cichlids are really good for my knowledge

For six months I battled an awful algae caused by the fact that i had zero nitrates in my densely planted tank. The massive sword plant I had was sucking absolutely everything out. Once the sword was removed my nitrate returned and the algae disappeared. It is possible but I suspect it is not common.

The Waikato Aquarium Society will be holding a meeting at the Waikato Commerce Club this Thursday 3rd July at 7.00pm. The aim of the meeting is to determine if there is still interest for the club to continue or go into recess. For the club to continue we need a strong turnout and also identify anyone keen to hold office in particular the president. After some emails and discussions on the WAS Facebook page its looking like we will be able to get the club up and running again with some former members keen to come back on board. I encourage current members and anyone else interested in joining to come along this Thursday. At stated before an outline agenda proposed is as follows • Welcome. • Background/Current state of club including financials, (How membership works, Affiliation to FNZAS, FNZAS Capitations, and Affiliation with Commerce club, etc) • Discussion on future of club. (What do we what to do? How to attract and retain Members) • Election of committee (If decided to continue). • Sales table and General discussion. The Waikato Commerce club is located at 197 Collingwood Street, Hamilton. For those who have never been at the club before the meeting will be in the conference room located inside at the back left of the club behind the restaurant area. The best way to get in is to enter the club up the stairs on the left of the building and head through the restaurant. Could you all please sign in as you enter and place down WAS meeting as the reason and Trevor as the person signing you in. I have attached a link for the clubs location below Again I encourage as many of you to attend. See you there. https://www.google.co.nz/maps/place/Wai ... 73ccad54ff

Heres my thread on my tank - page 1 is the tank when first painted and then there are progress reports. The black has stood up well. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61015 My new tank I opted not to go black back and have gone backing instead. Mainly because I wasn't sure what I was doing with the setup. Most marines go blue I think.

. transferred it over to the thread in the saltwater section

of my tank background?

Rubbish to glass letting chemicals through. I used acrylic paint and a roller on my tank. Took 5 coats to get a complete coverage.
