  3. Lovely. What are the ones with the angels?
  4. Copy of latest email sent by WAS Treasurer to club members and posted on the WAS Facebook page - 'Thanks everyone for the feedback on whether the club should continue or go into recess. We have had more positive than negative feedback from emails and the WAS Facebook page. No one as yet has indicated that they would take on the responsibility of president but some are happy to do other roles. I may be prepared to take up that role so long as I have good support from a strong committee and knowledgeable fishkeepers to help out with those tricky questions. The key to a healthy club is for all ideas to be considered and that the club is for everyone to enjoy. Also using good Communication tools like emails, FNZAS website and social media will be the key to ensuring everyone knows what’s happening within the club. So far most people have indicated that the reason for joining the club is so they can talk to other people passionate about fishkeeping and also having a sales table. Tanks crawls were also another reason for joining. Personally I think we came accommodate all of these. What I propose is we hold a meeting at the Waikato commerce club and see what response we get. The meeting will be open to current, former and any new members who wish to join. I need to talk to the Commerce club first and book the meeting room. Will probably be a Wednesday starting at 7pm. Date TBA. An outline agenda proposed is as follows · *Welcome. * · *Background/Current state of club including financials*, (How membership works, Affiliation to FNZAS, FNZAS Capitations, and Affiliation with Commerce club, etc) · *Discussion on future of club*. (What do we what to do? How to attract and retain Members) · *Election of committee* (If decided to continue) – Don’t let this process shy you away from attending. We won’t force anyone onto the committee. · *Sales table and General discussion.* If we do elect a committee and carry on it is important that minutes are taken therefore I require a volunteer to initially take these. Please get the feedback coming and I will get back to all with a firm date to hold a meeting'
  5. Well, number three in the group ate them this morning. Most were infertile anyway.
  6. Its not the first time, when I had discus previously I had two males trying to fertilise the one females eggs. Sadly it ended badly when the loser ate the lot
  7. lol I have eggs as well, laid early today I think. The male is the male from the last spawning but he has now paired with what I thought was Mr Turq, appears Mr is Mrs as well There is a threesome guarding the eggs, my rose red has joined the group. I suspect that is a she as well. Of course the eggs are laid on the FX5 filter intake.
  8. So then its mixed with salt, and stored in the event of an emergency at which time a heater is whacked in? If thats the case I might need to invest in some containers like new aqua.
  9. This is a totally innocent question so no one bite please. Why do people store RODI water if they have a unit? Why not process the water when you need it?
  10. My tank is 450 litres, running an FX5 + sun sun 1400 (I think), uv steriliser and 50 - 60% water changes every 3 days Also pretty heavily planted. Discus grow at different rates, there is always one in a tank that is smaller. My discus range in size from around 4cm - 8cm but like you there is a noticeable difference in the growth rates. The small 4cm one is the one that was being bullied by the pigeon and didn't come out to eat for around 8 weeks, clearly must have eaten scraps that drifted into its hiding spot. Is now out and eating but only eats whiteworms and discus tucker. Doesn't touch bloodworms or dried foods.
  11. Welcome back I've been gathering items for a marine tank also. What are you going to do for saltwater? Unless you know someone with an RO unit or are going to a beach to collect it you will need to invest in one as I believe Palmys water is suspect (according to various posts over the last year). Other items - test kits, a good salt supply, barrel/s for water changes, pump for water changes. I am assuming tropical marine, if cold water probably a chiller.
  12. It normally takes a few spawns before the eggs are not eaten - assuming you have a pair and not two females there. My chances of still having at least one female are fairly high with twelve discus still in the tank.

Yes there is - when you loaded it and went to the image there should have been 3-4 link options on the right hand side of the page. Click on the bottom one and copy it on to your post.
  14. They will go white if they are not fertile. I sold my female and purchased three more discus to replace her. The tank is way calmer now she is not bullying the other orange discus.

I can't ID it but I can see it by clicking on your link so a good effort
  16. Silverdollarboy is probably our youngest forum participant at 10 years old. Is there anyone living in his neck of the woods who might be able to assist him or if someone is able to draw up what he needs, if he went to a sump, and post it on here so he can see? Or even point him to the better links on the internet?
  17. Is it your house? When my tank burst a couple of years ago the carpet had to be ripped up as the underlay was rotting. Insurance normally covers it.
  18. Keep water changing - water change twice a day if needed when the ammonia reading is that high. I don't know ammoblock - I know of ammo lock which turns the ammonia in to a non toxic form. It is still there, just not lethal. Regarding the beta - it may recover but often ammonia does irreparable damage and in this case I suspect the labyrinth has been burnt along with the gills. Keep the aerator running 24/7 while there is ammonia in the tank as ammonia reduces oxygen in the water. Then its up to you (I assume the aerator is not connected to your filter) but most people either have it on all the time or don't have one at all. It will take around 3-4 weeks for the nitrogen cycle to complete i.e. for your filter to build up enough beneficial bacteria to deal to the toxic waste produced in the tank.
  19. Places like Flickr can be set up so the images can not be downloaded at all. When I am sourcing images for the magazine it is common for me to ask the photographer to email me the image.
  20. These photos might be from your archives but they are just as stunning as your more recent ones
  21. No, java does not. There is also peacock moss around which is very very similar to christmas moss.
  22. I see by posts in this forum that they were here pre 2009 and were bred in NZ as well
