  1. Yes started on Thursday they been doing water changes daily but no improvement,Am going to retest all water parameters today and retest tap supply, Some tanks were left open for new fish to acclaimatise but not every tank :-) Hi All tanks are on individual filters Water changes and gravel vacs have been done and prime has been used. the fish just dont seem to respond to even fresh water changes and keep going down hill. Fish are all listless and gasping mainly on the bottom of the tanks or floating head down, Slime coat starts to appear and within an hour the fish are dead. If this was old tank syndrom why would it appear in all tanks at the same time? and why would fish not respond to water changes? Your Thoughts? I am going to advise autopsy of dead fish :-(

  3. Guys a local shop where my friends work is having a major problem ALL THEIR FISH ARE DYING tests indicated low ph and spiked phosphate offthe scale this is across all their tanks excepting the quarentine tanks which are out the back. A friend has suggested old tank syndrome but there is no spike in nitrates and it has happened to all their tanks at once the fish develop a slimy like coating and die within the hour. Even goldfish. No gasping at the surface just fish that are very obviously distressed and gasping. the onset was all at the same time Personally I think their tanks have been spiked Your opionion Please and what should they be testing for all the other parameters are normal Help please
  4. Yet again thanks Adrienne you are a real pleasure to deal with with the great advice. :-)
  5. Stocking level had been fine up until 1 month ago and got good all around readings and have not changed stocking levels as for sponges in the trickle filter these also allow for bacterial growth and have been used for such since day of the tank being started with no problems up untill 1 month ago.No plant die off either the only change was the introduction of the cannister filter 2 weeks ago this should have improved matters but they have remained stable is it that the cannister filter needs more time to cycle perhaps?
  6. To start my water parameters are Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Phosphates 0, Ph 6.8, Nitrates 40ppm this is the latest reading I have done 8 50% water changes 2 days apart and have got the nitrates down to 40ppm but can not seem to reduce them any further. Tested water supply and got between 5/10 ppm nitrates (Tauranga city supply) The Tank: Aqua One AR980 with cannister filter (Aquis 1200) running over trickle filter back into tank I have cleaned all Media in tank water and replaced wool filters apart from that I am running sponge and ceramic noodles in the trickle filter and wool, sponge,Ceramic noodles and bioballs in the cannister. tank is reasonably heavly planted and all dead matter is removed and substrate cleaned one side at a time. If anyone has any ideas of what may be causing the nitrate spike please any ideas welcome Thanks in advance for your help and ideas :-)
  7. I do agree with you Arienne some people should not have fish if I cant give our babies (fish) the best that I possibly can then it is time to give up on having fish.At the moment we have Aussie, Blue, Bossmani Rainbows, Blue Gourami, Black Neons, Assorted Swords including Hyfin lyretails ,Bristlenose, Golden, Blue and Electric Blue Rams and V2 our Zodiac loach. water conditions of 0ppm Ammonia,0ppm nitrate, <10ppm Nitrate, 0ppm Phosphates so am pretty happy. Next goal is Ehiem canister filter into Aqua One trickle filter in our Ar980 and same into our AR850. Then I will look at the Flame Gouramis.
  8. Hi Adrienne thanks for the reply yes all my local shops stock them and all have told me similar things but reading online it says that they require prestine water conditions otherwise they become suseptable to disease.
  9. Our local shops have advised us not to get dwarfs because they are all inbreed and full of disease so die very quickly. Is this true or is it more likely just a case of bad water management/conditions. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :bggrn:
  10. Thanks Adrienne I've seen them on Trade Me recently BUT they won't ship what a shame :-(
  11. Anyone know of a decent breeder in tauranga :happy1: Pls
  12. Yep had to put peat in the water of my friends tank she just brought a couple of handy of new fish. Tested yesterday and had to lower ph from 7.8. Tested water from taps at hers and mine today and both came up with the same results Ba humbug lol.
  13. Tauranga water supply just tested tap water after friend tested theirs wtf! 7.8 What's happening can any one explain why this is happening. Usually 6.8 to 7.0 :env:
