    New pond

What area are you in??? there are a few specialty pond stores around the country. for liner there are a couple of options, there are some good quality fibreglass and Polyethelene preformed ponds. if you are going freeform I would strongly recommend the Firestone liner, its rubber so it stretches without tearing, (I have seen a truck driven over it on a gravel driveway without even a scratch or pinprick) and its UV proof (10 year UV garantee) Pressurised canister filters are extremely useful and should be considered, but if the pricing is too high you can always add to it later. imo pumps are quite important, unless the pond is extremely planted and shaded and water movement is going to help. also using a rivverstone in the base will increase surface area for bacteria to colonise and help keep your pond clean.
  2. actually it seems strange that Hedgehogs aren't more common as pets, they are quite tame naturally and would be as easy to care for as a rabbit or guinea pig
  3. are we talking about using crocs to get rid of the Rudd or the people putting the Rudd in there??? http://flatrock.org.nz/topics/animals/a ... codile.jpg
  4. My last Salvini grew to over 17cm, and in the tank he ended up going to killed off 2 fully grown Jack Dempseys and a couple of convicts before he settled down
  5. The marbles weigh down the net so there is the maximum swimming room available, plus the eggs tend to not stick to them (only use about 2-3) if you use stones the eggs cover the stones for some reason.
  6. T-Bar??? Salvini will munch everything once it gets big enough. Keyhole should be fine, they wont cause any issues, but if the firemouths go breeding mode then the keyhole wlll need an area away from them (firemouths normally have smaller territories to the 5ft should be fine.)
  7. Danio's do the same thing, although I find it easier to breed minnows on a bare bottom tank in a net with marbles in it and a pinch of javamoss (only a small amount, its not for the eggs, its for the female to drop her eggs.) next day look at the base of the tank and you should see eggs. works better with about 5 females and 2 males. oh and the net needs to be as large as possible without releasing adults, and covered as well..
  8. just got a mental image of crocs swimming around with heaters strapped to them
  9. lol, my breeding method for WCMM, find a 2000L stainless steel pond thats been full and forgotten about for 5 years, add 3M and 5F WCMM (and 1 gold for kicks) wait, pull out thousand babies..... babies have a "Klingon" stage where they stick to the side of the tank about 2cm below the water surface. ime as soon as you see this pour in enough infusoria to make it hard to see in the tank, by te time it clears you should have some nice happy free swimming young.
  10. hrmmm.... only just had a look, seems im unable to access as well...
  11. IMO cats should be banned in any area where they have access to major native populations and breeding areas, personally have no problem with cats in the middle of the city, but if your right next to pristine native bush you should'nt have them
  12. are those tanks fully supported underneath????
  13. sorry for the slow reply. there are heaps of types of dwarfs around, Kribs are a bit more aggressive than most dwarfs especially during spawning, bit if you ensure lots of hidey holes and taller plants/ornaments to break up line of sight you might be able to get away with it. I would avoid Blue Rams with Kribs as they are a bit delicate, but Bolivian butterfly rams, Keyhole Ciclids and some apisto's would be a good choice. how big is your tank??? (a full description of your system will help us to advise you on your best options.) also river rocs are ok as long as they are clean, and also avoid any that seem porous.
  14. I found http://dwarfpuffers.com/ useful (even has breeding info) don't bother with the forum though, I joined and it took a week before there was even 1 post, although its good to have a hunt through.
  15. I wonder if the fish are afraid of the toilet....

    Koi Guppy

I'd put my money on it being that they are highly inbred, then crossing again would make them even weaker. maybe try outcrossing the imported stock a couple of times then work on making the strain pure again. that way when the next shipment comes in you have something similar to cross it with instead of "pairs" that probably come from the same parents
  17. theres rules in icehockey???
  18. best to have 3 otto's, but it should be ok, i'd limit it to just one puffer though
  19. I'd stil tape up the edges just to be safe
