  1. I dunno, it would be good for removing house geckos from your windows in Aussie....
  2. wow my weed looks really different.........
  3. a current full tank pic please. loving the little guys
  4. Melafix = antibacterial Pimafix = Antifungal
  5. I stick with just this one, or else I would have no time left
  6. its a balance. long fins mean the ability to fight longer, short fins mean quicker maneuvering
  7. I tend to use it for my veges (lettuces are mental this year) but to be honest I pour most down the drain due to laziness and small garden
  8. these things act kinda like leaf borers, but are red and weird looking, suits the description and damage... probably a similar species. work mate (vege plant guru) says if pyrethrum doesnt work, try oil spray
  9. actually the VT was produced to provide a better fight to the death experience, if you want to promote the " right way" of producing them then you have to factor in the fact that a large percentage (even today) are produced mainly to fight to the death.... kinda like the very pretty Sharpei's we see around today.....
  10. its more that the meth blue will stain EVERYTHING!!!! including the silicone of the tank... you were warned. maybe try pimafix first???? (rarely used it anyone have any experience with it??? except for really bubbly water???)
  11. possible fungal infection of the mucus layer covering the eye? try a meth blue treatment (in a quarantine tank if possible to avoid colouring everything like a moonscape) http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/disease/eyeproblems.php
  12. due to a recent customer issue and a good play around with a microscope they look very similar to pear blister mite. a good dose of pyrethrum spray works on them.
  13. ours comes from Taumaranui, it has a bit of pumice (annoying) and a few sharp edges (most are round) and is rather dirty. but is cheap and does the job well, use it myself and never had a complaint about it did you wash the silt out thoroughly??? depending on the source the silt may be the issue. personally I have never run into gravel that leaches phosphates, it would not be good for landscaping as it would promote weed growth, the opposite of what landscapers want gravel for. maybe try landscaping gravel from a different shop
  14. When I was breeding on a commercial scale (Luke should be doing this atm) we used to put the whole spawn (sometimes 2 or 3) in a big heated pond full of driftwood, they very rarely fought much, about 2-4 weeks before sale they would be taken out and put in a conditioning tank (around 500mL per cube) that had clean water refreshing constantly (probably a 1-2x per hour turnover rate) just to get the fins nice (tbh most came out perfect anyways) as far as I know many large scale breeders overseas use this method as well, they just "jar" them to clean up the fins for sale
  15. does it look like this?? also has anyone ever used Aluminium sulphate to remove phosphate in an aquarium, it works well in ponds (sold as Phosclear by Ellis and Company LTD), but I've never tried it in an aquarium
  16. interesting, google "porb" and click "im feeling lucky" (and yes reasonably harmless but funny)
  17. over feeding can also lead to water quality issues causing the dropsy, how many fish and how often do you feed? oh yeah and BTW hello
