  1. http://www.kongs.co.nz/images/cart_bigimages/243485.jpg my boss wants me to sell these, I refuse, I have to stock them but I make sure customers know what they are buying. BTW the MIT course in Fish husbandry states that this is acceptable conditions as in the wild they can be found in small muddy puddles!!!! (im assuming they never asked how they got there
  2. Oto's are on my list of 'want to breed', what are your parameters??? any idea on what the fry are eating first????
  3. my personal opinion is blue rams, plus they might breed with out hurting much, the gourami's can get a bit more agressive. plus blue rams are my fav fish of all time. other thing to take into consideration is what your local water is like. it makes it easier in the long run to match fish to water than water to fish.
  4. theres a type of molly that is only female and requires fertilization from another species to breed.... p.s. once owned a couple of lesbian gold severums, only got spawn off them by adding a male with a partition next to the nest site... its the little tricks that the birds and bees never explained that are the most useful =P
  5. yeah just want to keep a couple of sand darters (dunno their proper name but they tiny gobies that live in the small puddles, sand coloured on top, irridescent blue on sides) water quality not a prob as I am planning on 3 x 30% water changes a week ( more probably 50%) thought it would be a good challenge i'll post a pic when up and running (the female wont let me set up until i build a new stand for it =(
  6. I reacently 'Inherited' a 400L Community tank that uses Aqua one blacki silica sand as a substrate. I have been having some troubles with this and was wondering if anyone else has had similar experience. I have lost 2 large bristlenose and 1 20cm long albino pleco due to them ingesting the sand which cuts up their insides. also I regularly get diatom blooms which In my experience is caused by excess silicates in the water. and my plant growth seems VERY slow (except for 3 cryptocoryne wendtii) I am planning on changing back to regular gravel but would be interested to see if I'm the only one having problems before condemning this product ( it does look cool)
  7. buy a new test kit, they do go out of date after a few years. i had one only 3 years old that was reading up by 3 (im assuming my pH 7.4 tap water is not 10.4 =P
  8. Hi there Finally joined the forum after years of reading. I'm from Tauranga and have been keeping fish since I was 5yrs old. im now 29 and have 8 years professional experience in the trade and have reacently returned from Australia to take over the fish room at Carine Garden Center (the missus won't let me have 50 tanks at home so I had to scratch the itch some how ) I am especially keen on Dwarf Cichlids, Bettas and Africans but also like experimenting with unusual setups. I am about to attempt a NZ mudflat nano setup and thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else has tried this before.
