  1. I was curious to see where all that cod liver oil I had to drink as a kid came from.
  2. The previous inspections were done by border security Maf people but the problems now are coming from vets as I understand it.
  3. Contact Mikefish (trademe), fugly dragon on here. He is into plecs. He has a fishing (tackle) shop in Armagh St between Manchester and Columbo St on the south side, but is relocating about now.
  4. He is not wholesaling anymore so I guess he will get out of marines. If it is too difficult with importing I would think it would be worse to buy in and retail only.
  5. I talked to Bob Ward last week and he has been importing freshwater tropicals and marines as well as plants over many years. He has given up the plant because the Maf could not get used to the fact that he grew them emersed so made the conditions tougher and tougher until it became impossible. The Maf found algae in his marine quarantine tanks and got very excited (not surprising since he uses a biological filtering system). He and other importers I have spoken to are sure that the Maf are determined to make it that tough that there will soon be little or no importing. There are now different people supervising importing and premises and proceedures that have been used for years are now being questioned and all sorts of requirements asked for.
  6. As stated earlier, you don't need an airstone. I have a number of tanks with no airstone at all. All they do is increase the surface area of the tank which basically allows you to overstock the tank (which can be risky anyway).
  7. According to Mrs Google (God's Mother in Law) it is a source of nitrogen and phosphate so it would be exactly what is required for a massive algae bloom.
  8. You would be upside down hanging by your feet if you had drunk that much gin as well.
  9. The plants are absolutely top quality and completely fabulous---where did you get them from? Where have you hidden the killies?
  10. It is a very small plant with small roots and is not easy to plant so it would be easiest in sand or very fine gravel. Very difficult to plant in standard gravel. Requires very good light and 600mm is a tall tank. It is normally grown emersed so it will be difficult to convert to submersed growth in a tropical aquarium at this time of year. I have some and could send you a bit for $5.00 p&p only but I would advise against it unless you have intense light like metal halides.
  11. I have just moved a heap of stuff out of my garage and the car has still never been in there so I know the feeling.
  12. If you wish to raise the fry you should siphon them off as soon as they are free swimming and raise them in a seperate tank. That is what I do. If you don't want to raise them just leave them and they will be tucker.
  13. The only legal oxygen weed is Elodea canadensis.
  14. To the best of my knowledge it is not in the country
  15. Are you refering to the ones similar to may flies
  16. They are giving me bondage +
  17. Does anyone have spanish fly that I can feed to my Choc australe? The candlelight and soft music is not working.
  18. If you are a member of the collective.
  19. Nothing is stopping you from catching legal sized fish and throwing them into a tank of sharks.
  20. You could probably buy the glass for less then the freight and make it yourself in situ
  21. Every year to avoid excommunication I have to send a box of blackboy peaches to both my daughters in Auckland. The locals don't seem to know what they are. Our freezer is full, have supplied 6 neighbours and heaps to the city mission and the season is now finished. All from two trees that came out of the compost. First you give away the trees that grow from the compost then the excess peaches. Till next year.
  22. If using salt I add a pinch of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) as well
