  1. i get a wee polly cup, half fill with water. a pair of tweezers I quickly grab clumps of worms with them that cluster around the bread etc and wash them into the poly cup. I then wait for them to settle at the bottom and pour most of the water off them and tweezer them and feed to the fish No probs!
  2. well, they don't have any tank mates? I will just leave them be for now I think.
  3. hiya, they are on ther own as these are the only cichlid I have(besides a pair of Blue rams) and they would never stand a chance with these guys though I will remove the babies if I see them venturing off to much. Do you think the parents would eat the fry if I moved the parents with them?
  4. bugger, so should I move them without the parents? I have some 50 X 30 X 30 breeding tanks with a sponge filter I could use? I feel rather bad taking them from their parents though..... Mayb I will leave this lot for now and put the parents in a breeding tank to spawn again at a later date.
  5. they are now trying to swim out of the nest but mom and dad are grabbing them and spitting them back They are in a big 160L tank with a canister filter(I was not planning to breed them in there!!!! Should I just stick some filter wool type stuff over the inlet pipes to stop them getting sucked up? or should I just leave it......
  6. our local petstore will buy them for around 10-15 each Another petshop here sells them for 30 each, 3 babies from my parents were sold there and they were all gone (the first 2 were gone on the 2nd day, and the last one sat for about a week.
  7. I baught a lovely breeding pair of Jewel Cichlid from Fish and Chips on here. I was getting rather dissapointed as I got them a week ago and they had not once come out of hiding...... So today I decided to shine a torch into the cave to see what was going on! A nice deep hole FULL of wrigglers that are bouncing about, and at least 200 if not more! Dad has been kicked out and is residing under a large peice of driftwood(either on watch or is out looking for a snack) and mom is tending to the babies! Super exciting as I absolutly LOVE these cichlid, they are beautiful!!
  8. Are they OK to keep together?
  9. Hi all, Just wondering if someone could recommend the correct lighting for my tank. I currently have a Aqua one single tube 60cm long 20W bulb for my 50cm H X 75L X 40 W. Anyway I want to turn this into a planted tank and there is no way enough light Just wondering what light hood and bulb/s wattage I would need to give good lighting. Cheers Amy

    Oscar

What would be the minimum size tank for a single oscar on its own?
  11. really? I am trying to get hold of some Java Fern as my lighting is not really great in that tank as it's quite deep. So all the plants i had in their carked it. If I look into the cave from the front they will spazz out and go crashing into the glass so i think they are scared.....
  12. my Jewels still have not come out of hiding? Do they like densly planted tank with lots of caves etc?
  13. my pair are in a 160L tank on their own. We use rain water so the water is soft and slightly acidic which I have read is perfect for them. So hopefully will have some fry in awhile They still hiding but ill try coax them out with some live white worms tonight as Im sure they will be getting hungry! STUNNING FISH! Thanks Fish and Chips!
  14. just got my breeding pair of jewels They are so pretty.....they are currently hiding in a log/cave type thing and freak out around the tank banging into the walls etc......hopefully they will calm down in the next day or so! :bounce:
  15. lol cool, they will probs eat the eggs if the spawn anyway! So that would be no gud!
