  1. do they/ did they look bloated? Could be dropsy, maybe.
  2. lol, how the mind boggles....
  3. Most of the young fighters I have found to start colouring up like that. Doesn't mean they are going to be females, some males act like females if they aren't dominant.
  4. Hi Caper, it isn't just the fins, things like the egg tube, body markings and the way they behave with other fish (dominent and submissive) I thin keven the best can get it wrong at times as many times I have seen short finned males being sold as females.
  5. VinsonMassif, When i was little i dreamed of making a movie about doozers inside the human body, making everything work. Damn i had a big imagination
  6. I used to watch fraggle rock as a kid too, loved those little worker guys "doozers" were they?
  7. cesarz where are you lol? I haven't tried breeding these yet, but it might be in the genetics that the females carry the genes for these, then they are passed onto the male fry. At least that would be a way to do it without surgery.
  8. where abouts it ak are you? maybe i could come over and give you some pointers.
  9. I would like to say i would be gonzo, but my mrs reckons i'm more like that crazy foreign cook lol
  10. wow, thats.... different, lol :-?
  11. is the power crisis solved now that you have unplugged it? lol, just kidding will ask my old man if he has any ideas why it would have gone like that.
  12. Other than that try a pH buffer, I think they are avaliable in 6.5 and 7
  13. spidersweb, would it not be too concentrated testing like that? Wouldn't you have to calculate the volume of water in the tank and the amount of substrate to be used to make it relevant to the bucket size and how much test substrate you put in the bucket? Sorta slept through science class at school, but if you had 3kg of acidic (for arguements sake) substrate in an 8L bucket, and 3kg of the same subsrate in a 200L tank the pH reading on the tank would be less than that in the bucket? :-?
  14. browse through some of the posts under the livebearer section, there are a few threads on there regarding guppy pregnancies.
  15. I have bare bottom tanks (for ease of cleaning) except for a few which I only use stuff that is aquarium safe.
  16. stupid question, but was the sand aquarium sand?
  17. are we going to place bets on days? lol  Sweepstakes!
  18. place her in the tank in a clear container. Try letting her out just before you turn off the lights, the day before you want them to spawn. Doing it when bad weather is around often helps. Give them two days together as long as she isn't getting beaten up or they haven't spawned within that time.
  19. try some australes, they are reasonably easy to look after and mop spawners (which means you dont have to wait long for fry )
  20. I'll move him into a tank that I can take a proper pick of him and let him settle down. I'll try and get a pick up tomorrow. Saw some similar on the aquabid site but cant find them now. Were being sold as golds.
  21. just a guess, but a hatchet of some discription?
  22. I dont like using a hot tap as i often find the hot tap water to be cloudy. I usually take a 8 or 9 litre bucket of water out at a time and replace with a bucket that contains half a jug of boiling water, topped up with cold tap water and a dose of water conditioner. I dont get pidantic (sp) about temps, its around close enough for me.
