  2. Links Fixed Mod Bill. Righty, where to start? Cambodian Red Finned Crown-tail line. - Goal: Dark red fins with long rays and white tipped crowns, clean pink body. Father- Mother- I paired the above two together, then picked the best male and two of the best females to carry on the lines. Male- Female- I have paired the male with both of the females twice now. (about a month apart) Already can see the red crowns developing well
  3. Hey there, I have been reading your posts over the past month or so and it sounds like you are really keen to breed your fighters. The biggest advice I could give is that good things take time. Fish (or other animals) wont always breed always when we want them to. My suggestion is that you leave your male in a tank by himself for a day or two. I usually put my males in a breeding tank by themselves for at least half a day. I would then put the female in one of those clear plastic traps on the other side of the tank but still in a place that the male can see her. Sometimes I use a polystyrene cup cut in half and pressed against the glass. (so that I can spy on the progress of the eggs) Other than that plants that float on the waters surface make a good anchor for the nest. (have used lily pads and plants with really long thin leaves that float on the surface) Other things to think about are your water height and temp. I keep my breeding stock at around 26-29 degrees celcius. When I introduce the female in the trap (making sure she is nice and plump) i will lower the temp to around 22-24 degrees celcius. After the half day (or longer) of the female being in the plastic trap she should be very interested in the male and hopefully showing vertical bars on her body. The other thing I forgot to mention earlier was that bubblenests are all different sizes. I have had males that have made huge nest and others that only have small ones. Once I let the female into the tank (which has a few places for her to hide) I will raise the temp up to around 28 degrees and let them be for about half an hour before I go back to check on things. It is good to let her out in the evening and I leave them overnight near a window where they can get the morning sun. Another good time in when the weather starts to turn bad ( a change in air pressure etc). It might be that he doesn't like the particular female? Other than that patience is the key. Good luck, Aaron
  4. I have fitted lid which leaves a small gap approx 2-3cm at the rear of the tank to let the waterfall filter hang on the back. I have since covered this part also.
  5. The Killies are around 3-4cm. They are violent towards each other at times (only have a male and a female) and have witnessed the male chasing the female at such speeds that she has jumped at least 2 foot up and out of the tank. She was returned moments later as a fish with a fluffy coat. I am thinking about swapping those killies out and put my lonely golden australe male in with the whiptails.
  6. I always thought that killies were pieceful fish. I have a pair of Gardneri Nigeriatum with my 4 pinnocio whiptails. There were no problems until yesterday I found one of the whiptails upside down with a large chunk of of its back and was obviously dead. The whiptails are only 6-7cm long but I thought they would have been ok.

Hey there, i think it is a gold nugget pleco if I remember rightly (haven't been down there in a few days.) Does the pic attached remind you of it?

  11. Hey all, I was wondering if there is a Betta club in NZ at all? Also I was wondering if there are any competions for them? shows etc? Just curious because they are such a big thing in other countries. Cheers, Aaron
  12. Hey all, I have 4 bristlenoses (two males and two females) 2 Yellow spotted pleco's 4 Pinoccio Whiptails We are going to try and start breeding them within the next few months
  13. at the moment I have a waterfall type but I will change it over.
  14. Ok, will do that this afternoon before work. I was watching them like a hawk and have noticed that she is going up to the woolen mop and just sitting in there for a while. If there was eggs in there how long do they take to hatch? Would it be a good idea to take the pair out and set them up in another tank without gravel? Also should I turn the filter off?
  15. I have them in a tank by themselves with fruitsalad stones on the bottom, a fake rock formation and a small fake plant. If they were to breed in there would the eggs hatch and would the fry stand a chance at living? I have put in a dark green woollen spawning mop tonight yet they are still hanging around the bottom.
  16. I have been feeding them live mosquito larvae and brine shrimp, their colours have getten really bright now.
  17. I have a pair of golden Australe and I was wondering how you know if they are ready to spawn?
  18. I just introduced my two male Bristlenoses together with one of my females in a large tank. The question i have is, do they normally fight with one another? I have also noticed that their bristles are different too, one has straight bristles and the other had prong like things on the ends of them. Will they settle down and be ok together or should i keep them apart?
  19. deformities can be in the fins or arched spines etc. those are the only two i have encountered so far.
  20. Two of our latest girls, both double ray crowns. Maybe looking for a new home soon.
  21. Our miricle double tail, breed from two veiltails.
  22. Our miricle double tail, breed from two veiltails.
  23. A common problem with breeding DT's together. Breeding DT's together have a high ratio of deformities as compared to other strains.
  24. Here's a pic of him, you cant really see the double tail from that angle.
  25. I have a red male with half black cellophane fins (sorta butterfly) if you would like a loan to get some stronger genes. I have breed one lot off him with a DT female, but with lots of deformities as explained in an earlier post. The other way I got a DT was through pure luck, I was breeding two veiltails and got him as a "genetic retard" We have kept him and he is shaping up to be an awesome fish.
