  2. Ok people, we have our venue booked. 😁 Heretaunga Boat Club on the Esplanade in Petone. 6th and 7th of June Now that we have a time and place, we are still needing an idea of numbers so we can plan what's going to be happening over the weekend and who may need to be billeted for the night 👍
  3. Upper Hutt Aquarium Society have put their hand up to hold this years FNZAS AGM, we where hoping to "kick it old school" and have a weekend planned for a face to face get together for the the formalities (elections etc) outings, activities and networking etc. Hoping to get an idea of numbers of those who would be interested so we can look into dates, venues, accommodation deals, activities etc.
  4. Heading up to the top of the north island and back, just wondering if people could advise anywhere to stop and checkout (especially fish related or fish shops) Thanks in advance
  5. From my experience with an AR380 with this sort of filter, it depends on the water level in the tank. I would usually have my water level up high enough to touch the bottom of the filter box. In the filter itself, I run from the bottom of the box- small ceramic noodles, charcoal filter, then 2 layers of filter wool, makes it basically silent :-)
  6. if you are meaning "hara hara catfish", or "dwarf hara hara catfish" tiny cats that look like anchors when you look at them from above, then I believe they are imported as Erethistes hara. The genus Hara has now been synonymised with Erethistes. Therefore the Hara species are now in Erethistes Just a sidenote - these are one of my fav fish. Currently have three hanging out in my crypt tank with my frucatus 8)
  7. Hi all, just letting those who are interested know that I have a few spare pairs/trios of young blue gardneri killies. I am looking to swap for another specie preferably
  8. Your pair have now joined my five, settled in quickly and feeding well :-)
  9. I use Poret foam in my killi breeding tanks and swear by it now. I have eliminated the use of H.O.B. filters on my tanks. :bggrn:
  10. Yea I keep mine in a small container until they are big enough not to escape out of the livebearer breeding boxes. Daily water changes tho with tank water
  11. Usually the first day or two I put a small amount of microworms and a drop of liquifry. There are probably baby microworms with the full sized ones
  12. King Killies- always look like they are smiling Bettas- intelligent and each have their own personality Austrolebias Nigripinnis- cute fish for a dark planted tank
  13. Printing Briscoes reciepts with invisible ink, click image for video. Printing Lotto tickets at 250 meters a minute, click image for video. Printing tags on a small antique press, click image for video.
  14. I had pebbles in the bottom of each as substrate but it was only a prototype for me at the time. It worked well.
  15. Oops, found some old pics of it and a smaller version No jumping as the whole top of the tank was flush and would be covered most of the time
  16. back in the day I had a ten bay barrack made for me. Set up like the picture (sorry about my basic paint sketch) water flowed from the HOB filter at the back from one side of the divider to the other (sealed bottom and sides but 10mm shorter than the tank height to fit the HOB hanging on the back of the tank. The water flowed under each divider as there was a 3-4mm gap under each. The back panel of the display side (longest piece of glass down the centre of the tank) was coloured so that it hid the heater which sat in the rear area.
  17. As you are in wellington, There is someone selling trio's of Golden Australe regularly on TM. If you were after different species, I will have pairs of Chocolate Australe ready in a few weeks. If you were willing to wait longer, I also have Blue gardneri hatching at the moment. I don't keep striatum though sorry, as they don't do much for me. But Redwoods has some/will have some shortly if you are willing to pay for courier. I can ask another breeder I know of if he has any Striatum.
  18. with your killies, because you got them young, the eggs may not be fertilised. It is a good thing that they are at the age that they have started to try spawning. Keep collecting and over the next few weeks you will find that the eggs will be fertilised and develop. I'm lucky if I see an egg a day from my pair of golds and have only had one hatch so far, but they are still a bit young. Also make sure you don't use too much blue in the water, I dilute mine to a light blue which lasts a few weeks in the containers.
  19. I haven't cleaned my HOB filters in almost a year lol, I run sponge filters over the intake pipe which filters most of the crud out before it clogs the filters and just take them off and squeeze out in bucket of waste water while doing water changes when the flow is reduced through the filter. Works out to be fortnightly that the sponge filter begins to cave in showing reduced flow but keeps the internal parts of the filter clean other than a gradual build up of beneficial bacteria.
  20. Out of curiousity, has anyone tried using Pimafix while incubating killi eggs or any other eggs like gertrude blue eyes or frucatus? I usually use meth blue but was introduced to Pimafix as an antifungal which is Bay oil based. Would this work the same or better than meth blue?
  21. Been working too much but will pick some up this coming week. Heard they were mixed though, goldens and blues mixed together.
  22. With the recent killies turning up in shops, I was wondering if any of the members on here have picked them up and started breeding them? I am currently keeping/breeding: Clown killies - eggs, no fry yet Golden Australe - eggs, no fry yet Chocolate Australe - eggs and fry Filamentosa - only have a female, looking for a male
