  1. in my opinion, there is a large safety buffer for fighters with the pH levels, have had mine between 5 and 7 at times and depending what tank they are in. At a guess, I would usually breed at between 26 and 28 degrees with a pH of around 6.5
  2. I am looking to go down to Tims place and pick up some fish in 2 weeks time and was offering my services to anyone who is wanting fish transported between Auckland and Tauranga. This could be a good opportunity for those in Auckland to get killies from Tim and not have to pay for large courier fees. (my fee would be $5 per same day door to door delivery)
  3. just wondering which is more desirable, the flat mouth like the [ or the rounded like this ( ?
  4. i wish! $300 for 3 fish is better than 3 @ $150 each
  5. Just letting you's know that jensons lincoln road have one in at the moment.
  6. Sorry to high-jack the thread. Alanmin, I just created a small male community tank with most of my males i'm not breeding at the moment. I must say they do look awesome together.
  7. Looking for someone into automotive painting etc that might be able to paint a vintage stationary engine for me for a reasonable price?
  8. one of the problems with breeding "pet shop quality" fighters are they are mixed colours and fin types with mixed parents. There are certain things that are dominant though.
  9. I think, just wait a while. probably tomorrow when you get home from school, with a bit of luck there maybe some babies in there.
  10. does someone want to organise another hunt? seems to be a bit of interest.
  11. i must admit that i can sit and play cs 1.5 for hours at the net cafe if I have nothing better to do.
  12. Some very nice looking fish. Just wondering where you managed to find a DT plakat in nz?

Damn work gets in the way of my internet time, lol. I am hoping to be coming down, hopefully driving down, but i'll see how it goes.
  15. can i just ask where that theory comes from Cheesejawa? CT +CT = CT, CT+ VT= mixture of half this and thats. Most betta breeders want to keep strains pure by sticking to one fin type together like pairing crowntail m's and f's together so the offspring will mostly be crowntail, taking the best crowning and carrying on the strain forever trying to improve it rather than mix it all up. Put it to you like this: (figures pulled out of my head) Pure CT male show quality= $60 per fish Pure CT female show quality= $30 per fish Those two pair up and you raise 40 of the best fry resulting in pure CT's similar to the parents, worth the equal of the parents $30-$60 per fish depending on sex Pure CT male show quality= $60 per fish Pure Halfmoon female show quality = $30 per fish These two pair up and will result in hm's with a comb edge, or "bitsa" bettas (bitta this, bitta that) raising 40 of these fry would result in fish with mixed strains, that will take a lot of selective breeding to breed pure strain from their offspring and resulting fish wouldn't be worth as much as pure strains. Also the different fin varieties look a lot better when they are pure.
  16. I would usually only feed twice a day, too much rich food can lead to dropsy i hear.
  17. just been to the pet shops on Lincoln Rd (Hsn.Ak) and theyu have a few in aswell, only males though. Jansens Lincoln got them in a while back, I wasn't too interested in them but they did go pretty fast. Though seeing them again today made me look twice at the delicate patterns they have.
  18. just a thought, maybe the eggs aren't fertile? maybe the female has dropped some from being excited and thought they were fertile.... hang on, they can tell if they are fertile can't they?... hmmmm, got me stumped. :-?
  19. damn, the amount of spawns of fighters that I've had... and the killies too.... and i've never registered any.
  20. I have noticed the dark and light fry with spawns that I have had, not just with bettas either. I dont know why some come out like that. Maybe I might split up some of the darker away from the lighter ones and see what the differences are as they grow. Good luck with the fry btw.
  21. nice fish! I always laugh watching their eyes move so they are looking straight ahead.
  22. Just been keeping an eye on him for a while. He's not interested in the females anymore, they dont seem to be chasing or biting him, but occasionally swim up next to him. He is active but not a darty fish like he used to be. Noticed that he seems to be loosing his red spots, maybe scales? His fins aren't nice anymore either. His eyes also look cloudy. Anyone got any ideas? Is he just getting old, or very sick? btw, he lives in a tankwith his two girlfriends.
