  1. Are you speaking from experience? Mine probably wont get too big because of the lack of lighting and the water current around it. Hoping it will go out not up.
  2. righty, update time. Since my last posts, I have stripped it down and started again using Daltons. Still trying to get over an algae problem. Have been treating with half doses of algaefix. Plants seem to be slowly taking off with the exception of my windelov pieces, some pieces are good while others are a bit dead looking. Have been told it sometimes dies off and starts again, either that or it might not like the algaefix. Have added a few plantlets of dwarf sag to the background and also a small tiger lotus in the foreground. Currently using Flourish excel and Leaf zone on alternate days. Brought a small GAE to help with the algae problem. Currently stocked with a few guppies to keep the GAE company.
  3. Hi all, After seeing these beautiful fish, I have decided to try to breed them. I picked up 3m + 2f as per the rainbowfish book and have them in quaranteen in a tank with guppies at the moment. I was wondering if anyone had bred them before and had some tips/tricks to share? Thanks in advance, Aaron p.s. these fish look awesome when flaring! CT fins

Some crowns have thicker rays than others.
  9. Possibly something like this: (at an educated guess, depends on what genes the parents parents carried) 25% pretty good crowns 50% not so good crowns 25% not crowns You probably will have to cull a lot of them (instead of trying to grow all the rubbish ones), it is often better to just concentrate on the good ones so that they will be your future breeders to improve your percentage of good fry per spawn. (keep breeding the good looking ones together) Good things take time though, Just gotta be patient. 8)
  10. Full CT Female, plus Full CT Male would equal all CT babies of varying quality.
  11. their smiles are deceiving. I had some golden Australe in my male guppy holding tank, for only one day, and they managed to eat most of the tails off them.
  12. The seller was honest about the parentage of the offspring for sale, it is then up to the buyer wether they want to buy them or not. After all, not everyone is out there to breed fish, maybe someone just wants a clean-up team for their tank.
  13. If you are wanting good crowntails, you won't get them on the first attempt. You would need to selectively breed the good ones together.
  14. marbles are pretty hard to come by because of the little market for them. You either like them or you dont. I have found with cambodian fighters, it is a pretty dominent gene, and hard to get rid of once you start line breeding. Try and set yourself an achievable goal and strive to get it through selective breeding.
  15. just try different pairs. Most petshop fighters come from a mixed background anyways, or look through some of your F1's from your original pair and pair up the ones that are total opposite of each other, that should give you the variety that you want. Or, try marbled fighers, love 'em or hate 'em fish, I've never seen two that look the same.
  16. I think i can I see mine So close, and yet so far....
  17. ain't it funny that those office folk with hardly any "training" are getting paid more than tradesmen with a 3-4 year apprentiship etc. Speaking from experience. I am doing a printing 3 year printing apprentiship, when I become a certified tradesman I will be earning a reasonable wage, yet work has just hired someone to basically, munipulate and position images on a computer screen and hit "print" this person has absolutely no experience in the printing industry and yet is getting paid about 1/3 more per hour than what I would get as a tradesman printer. No wonder They sit in their airconditioned office looking down on us sweating it out in the factory. Anywho, getting a bit off the topic.
  18. it should be ok, got about 1/4 of a bucket to go. Will give you a yell if I need anymore.
  19. well, I have just finished cleaning the tank out again and have layered a bit of Daltons on the bottom. Now washing my stones by hand so I can salvage what I can so I have enough. Only brought them about a week ago, no use in throwing it all out, just a pain trying to wash the aquatic mix out of them.
  20. Just had a look at the Daltons mix, it seems to be full of stones etc. So, where to from here? I dont really want to be planting it and pulling it apart every other day because I've done it wrong.
  21. damnit I need a bashing my head against a wall smiley. Just been out to get some Daltons, and sure enough, it was there so I brought it.
  22. I'm going to have to tear this tank down today. Going to go and get some Daltons aquatic mix. Also going to have a talk to the guy at Mitre 10 so that he doesn't recommend it to anyone else, then going to Palmers garden centre to do the same. I would have rathered them tell me they didn't know, than recommending and selling me the wrong product.
