  1. lol, the thing that we were worried about was that it looks like it has twisted to that corner of the house. Personally i hate the house because it is a "Settler" style house, eg, no attic. The walls are cracking away from the ceiling beams. Also the design of the house causes the internal temps to reach 30 degrees plus the past few hot weeks. We are hoping our landlord wont blame us for these cracks.
  2. on the topic of weight distribution in the house, My partner and i have come across a predicament in our rental home. Half the house is solidly on land and the other half extends out on stilts. (short half extends out and the long half is sorta dug into the hill We had our fishroom in the room that was on stilts. The house was only built in 96 and is made of new materials. After 4 months of living there we started to notice cracks in the walls and such, things like the window in that room was twisted enough not to open easily and doors wouldn't close. We didnt think that the weight of the tank were too much for that room as at the time we ony had around 5 tanks measuring 26x26x46 (cm's) The tanks were placed in "structually strong" places in the room. The tanks only had around 20-25 liters of water in each so at max they would weigh around 125kg at the most plus around 50kg in the stands. We haven't found out yet wether it was poor products used in the building or what, but we have since moved all the tanks to a room on land.
  3. have put the two i got off you and kept the larger one seperate like you suggested wok, is it ok to breed the large female with the small male?
  4. Thanks for that, just uploaded a clearer pic below.
  5. I know the pic is crappy from the webcam but can anyone identify this killi? I got it from Jansens Lincoln rd as as Golden Australe girl, but is it? I will try to wip around to get the digi-cam and get a clearer pic. It has clear yellow fins with red dots on its dorsal and at the end of the anal fin. It has a rather clear/ pink body.
  6. we have been attempting to breed out red with black edged double dail and some of our dark coloured girls to try and get some dark double tails. Also have breed recently some cambodian red crowntails and just had some fry from a cambodian girl and a really light red male veiltail. After supplying places with fish we have 5 cambodian red girls (some crown), 3 red finned with black edged crowntails girls (double rays), 5 rainbow coloured females (mixed red and blues), 3 boys who are multi-coloured and 1 red double tail boy. We were wondering what other people are breeding at the moment though? Also have a pair of golden gouramis who seem very agressive towards each other.
  7. Hey everyone, I picked up a lonely Australe Gold Killifish today but i cant seem to find any males. After hearing about the way they breed we were hoping to find a male and maybe another female. Can anyone help me find some friends for my lonely killi? Thanks heaps.
  8. without racing home and looking, I think I have 3 males, that would be the answer why they are very territorial i guess. What rotten luck, now I will have to hunt down some females. At what age would they be ready to breed? There are 2 around 7-8cm and the third is about 10-12 cm
  9. I have 3 reasonable sized BN's and I was wondering how you tell the differences between the sexes?
  10. Does the peat alter the ph or water hardness? I have a problem with the tap waters ph being to low so i was told to use oyster shells in my filter, the downside to that was that it hardens the water. I am having to buy purified water from the supermarket which has a ph of around 7 to 7.2, but it is getting too expensive to do water changes. Does anyone have the "ideal" solution?
  11. bOi, when I say fat, i mean that she is chocka full of eggs. And for my theory about egg adoption, last night I came home to find the "Giant" Bettas had the floor of their tank covered with eggs. Wether they are all fertile is another story. The "giant" male betta was having a few troubles as it is his first time. I took a large syringe without needle and sucked up most of the eggs and transferred them into the blue cambodean males tank. He immediatly started catching them out of the syringe and blowing them up into his nest. He is looking after all the eggs well and is an excellent father. I left about 50 in the other tank for the "giant" betta to look after. He is doing better with the smaller amount. And is very protective of his first lot of babies ( wont even let me put my hand in the water to adjust the heater and flares at us when we look into his tank)
  12. Yah, I finally got these two to mate. The Male you see in the pic is supposed to have double tail genes in him, so it will be interesting to see what the outcome is. Just thought I would share my joy with everyone as they spawned around 1pm today.
  13. Hey all, we aquired an unusually large Betta female a few months ago and she has been large bellied ever since seeing our males. We have tried to match her with most of our boys (one at a time) and she keeps on beating up on them. I had an idea of breeding her with a friends "Fighting Betta" and at the moment they are getting on really well. They are really nice together and both have lost their bad attitudes (must be true love....) they are swimming around together and trying to spawn but he has troubles rolling her over (she is really fat). Does anyone have any ideas about this problem? She isn't releasing any eggs during their clutches. I moved her into a holding container for a while to observe her and added a tiny amount of melafix to her water, while i had gone to the other end of the house and come back to find she had released about 20 or so eggs. would these eggs be fertile from their previous attempts? also has anyone tried to put eggs into a tank with a male that is already brooding his eggs? if so will he look after these "adopted" eggs? That is a pic of them attempting to spawn. And below (i dont know if it will work) is a small video of them at it.... dont worry its not R18 http://s98.photobucket.com/albums/l279/ ... V02461.flv
  14. another thoguht I had last night while pondering the green water idea, (i now have containers outside with lettuce and water, if i dont get green water at least i will get mosquito larvae) aren't fighters meat eaters? I have noticed that they dont touch any plants in their tanks and will pick out the meaty flakes when i put mixed flake in. Just a thought....
  15. Hey all, sorry to say but i was also looking at them but i got told another story from the younger guys working there. I was told that they didnt know if they were m or f because they couldn't tell the difference. I would love to add them to my collection but I have too many tanks already. I am thinking about sacrificing a 29L breeding tank for them. To whoever gets them I wish you great success with them.
  16. how does one go about making green water? just leave it outside for a few weeks? I know it sounds stupid but i have never needed to use it when my bettas have spawned. Was thinking about giving it a go.
  17. Whoa!!! how do your Bettas spawn that much, mine usually do around 100 or if they're a bit older and fed up a bit, 150.....
  18. This is one of my favourites And below is a Cambodian Red I also have
  19. These are some photos of my sick female. Does this help?
  20. Hey there everyone. My name's Aaron and I am new to the boards. I am seeking some help regarding a Female Fighter fish I brought from Jensons on Friday. She looked nice a full coloured in their tank with a nice and ripe tummy because she was in with a male. I purchased this fish and took her home. I did everything the proper way (bag floating on water for 15 mins) and was watching her closely and noticed that a few of her scales looked a bit odd under my light. I put her into an isolation tank by herself after taking her to Hollywood to see what they said. I was told to try and treat her with Melafix. I did this but as I was watching her on saturday, she seemed to be peeling??? Does anyone know what is wrong with my poor fish? I love Bettas, but have never seen this happen before. Any help would be great. Thanks Aaron (p.s. how do i add a pic on here as it would make it easier to understand my problem?)
