I am just setting up a tank for them in the lounge and going to start breeding them again... they are desperate to get multiplying again Chocolate Cichlid - Hypselecara temporalis
  2.  Caryl I also don't like the "soppy send along ones" either or the "you must send this to 10 people in a certain amount of time or bad luck will come your way..." ones.. Ridiculous... The chain letter type ones really get on my irrits...

  6. Alot of us no doubt have the same thoughts as that BK, however there have been rules stipulated on this forum and we have to abide by them in order to keep the thread alive.. The most important thing is the fact that now the treatment of these creatures has been brought to peoples attention, I hope there is enough fuss made up that way so that something is done about it, and the conditions and treatment addressed.
  7. Hey guys... This thread was removed due to a complaint that had been put into a mod, however the thread has been put back and the name of the place edited out of the main thread... It would be great if people are aware of what is going on and something done about the way these animals are being treated, hence why the thread has been put back. But please any discussion on the issue is fine, however, please do not use names of people or the place in question over this thread. I do hope the matter has been brought to the attention of the petshop in question and that some drastic measures have been taken to resolve the issue. Mod
  8. I used melafix on a very bashed up oscar that we acquired, the fish was a real mess, almost to the point of put down material, big chunks of flesh hanging off etc... Melafix was amazing for this fish.. the healing process was amazing, kept all the wounds clean and the dead flesh fell off and it was amazing how fast the new flesh grew in place... It definately did well in this case.. we would only use it if we had too, like something as serious as his wounds. It didn't seem to upset the bio in his tank... After the treatment we just did decent water changes gradually.
  9. You don't have big fish lurking beneath the trap do you? Some traps aren't overly safe and fry can get sucked through... by bigger tank mates on the other side
  10. I shall keep my eyes peeled... 8)
  11.  That must look hilarious, who backs off first? What are you on the look out for... anything in particular, shall keep my eyes peeled for ya is all
  12. Yeah I found Dems very fast growing, I would say that the Lithos are alot faster growing than Peacocks, but majority of mbuna I find faster growing than anything else   Rapt that they are going to you Ryan
  13. Oh awesome Tiden, great new additions, that is for real
  14. Sorry to hear of your bad news purplecatfish , but great to hear of your good news 8) And glad that some light was shed on some of your bad news... 8)
  15. We keep lithos... and breed them, well have done up until recently before they head down a bit from Napier this week coming  They are nice fish... rather peacock like in nature.. can get stroppy... but our lot are pretty laid back. With the two lots of Lithos we have kept and bred from, I always find that the females will try and knock off the weakest link female... just something I have noticed with the Lithos. They certainly do grow fast, long term they would do ok with E yellows and Demasoni... if you have a big enough tank.
  16. I know of many fishkeepers that feed brine shrimp to their cichlid hatchlings... I have raised young apistos etc on it, they do well.... the sajica are doing great too, they also get other food too, not just being raised on the brine shrimp solely.

    Jewel cichlid

We have kept and bred the red jewel, they were atrocious.. they were in a 4 ft tank before we took them out to breed in their own tank, and the tank mates (not peaceful communals) were smacked up against the opposite end of the tank, too scared to move, the jewels once paired up decided to own the full tank as territory, of which is often the case, that is why they were moved ,especially when the babies are ready to travel with mum and dad will they attack anything in sight. Alot of sites on the net advise that the jewel be kept in a monospecies aquarium or with species that can pack as much punch as they can themselves. Definately not to be kept with delicate fish. I wouldn't risk it anyway.
  18. Those brineshrimp feeders I have heard are excellent, I am looking at buying one or two for myself for growing on tanks... only since hearing good things have I considered buying a couple, I am like you and would rather get feedback than spending the ping only to find the darn thing doesn't work

    Jewel cichlid

Ummm in short answer, NO... not a good idea... adding a Jewel Cichlid or two would be a huge disaster... :-? If you want to go Jewels it might pay to keep them in another tank, seperate species, they are definately not suited to a peaceful aquarium... They often can cause problems amongst other semi aggressive to aggressive cichlids alone, so can only imagine what they would do in your current tank. HTH 8)
  20. Here is a pic taken this afternoon of only some of the little blighters, there are loads of them I will get another shot later today of them with ma and pa.. they are growing like weeds, just goes to show how great brineshrimp is 8)
