We use the rangi version... Fizzy drink bottle version or glass bowls and air stone... works a treat
  2. We have been to see Bryan's dad tonight and spent a good 3 hours there, I have passed on peoples thoughts and condolences.. and he was very appreciative. Thanks so much everyone.
  3. I am seeing his dad this afternoon, my husband is taking care of his tank for the time being. I will pass on peoples condolences. Many thanks to all that have posted. Bryan was such a gorgeous person, we loved him very much (still do) and he will be remembered by many I am sure.
  4. Thanks Warren for posting this and being a support. Bryan was a very close friend to both Daffydd and I, for at least 4 years. There was never a day that went past that we weren't chatting on the phone, we would at times be on the phone 3 times a day.. I would hear the phone ring and think gee that must be Bry  Since Bry being back in Napier we tried to support Bry as much as we could, I can truely treasure the fact that he was a part of our life, even through his good times and bad times... and mine for that matter My son adored him, and recently he caught a heap of mysis shrimp and taught Rory how to feed them out to fish. Thanks Bry, you have created a monster, now my nets go missing more often than not  I will miss the old Bryan like crazy and I am still in major shock over his passing. RIP sweetheart.. Shine on you crazy diamond

Very nice colouration, lovely example of an Oscar I reckon 8)
  6. Hermit Crabs are awesome to keep, so entertaining and always rummaging around for food 8)
  7. I think it depends on each individual pair, some species are known to be great parents, however, there is always exception to the rule. Our pair were excellent parents, and they are a cichlid that is known to be good parents and look after their fry well, but you could have one out of your pair that doesn't mind snacking down on it's brood by the sounds, or could well be both.
  8. Couldn't agree more with the above post.... 8)

Personally I don't think your tank dimensions are big enough to house anything more, may pay to upgrade size of tank if you are wanting to get more fish. Do you mean a pair of JD as in male/female? All hell could break loose if they eventually pair up.

Our breeding pair that we had bred in a 4ft long tank, however the width and height of the tank were more than ample.
  11. Awwww Awesome Mince!! :bounce: I am so rapt for you!!!! Now you have another thing to show off when we head down that way 8) Got your message on MSN, rapt to hear about Ambrocious too, tell him to get that leg over quick smart

There could well be issues, and when Oscars fight they mean business, and they are in my opinion like dogs with a bone when it comes to having a snitch   You will need to upgrade the size of your tank eventually also.

    convict

I have seen one tank in particular with a mix and not one fish had fins that were perfectly intact

I have heard of the odd person keeping convicts and africans in the same tank, not something I would encourage. Bear in mind that some fish may be peaceful in one tank however can adopt a different attitude in a different environment. It could swing either way, become aggressive or could end up getting dealt to itself. What sort of Africans are you keeping in the tank?
