  1. We used to run a dehumidifier in lounge, and yeah it worked a treat... if you have good secure tank lids it won't drop your tank down too much, yet no lids then yeap there goes ya water  We have an HRV unit in now and everything in the house is so dry, no condensation no nothing... well worth it 8)
  2. Congrats But bummer over the car :-? They often say it can take a bit of practice to make perfect with some angels.... awesome stuff, keep us posted on babes.. 8)
  3. Here are alien4's pics of her bug breeding setup 8)
  4. I love the sound they make, they are one awesome bird 8)
  5. I pop them in our 1200 watt microwave for 20 seconds on high, so they are rather warm/hot to touch... then wrap them in a single layer of newspaper and tuck down against fish bag... we travel often like this over colder months carting fish and they have been excellent, with very cold overnight travel, I would use new ones or as I said, if the fish are going for a long distance stint.
  6. We have reused heatpacks.. and never had a problem 8) If the fish are going a fair distance tho I would use newbies... 8)
  7. As far as I know Neolamp Pulcher are no longer classed or called Pulcher... they are just a different colour morph of Brichardi as far as the change is... Yes these species will live together if you have decent territories and a reasonable size tank.. BUT..... Daffodils and Brichardi... shouldn't be mixed, we need to keep these seperate for the sake of keeping our stock clean in NZ... so in short answer... NO they shouldn't go together Neolamps are aggressive little sods at the best of times, so it is a case of really keeping an eye alot of the time to see what the tank dynamics are at in regards to fish tolerating each other etc.
  8. What big fish are you referring too, there are many a big fish that can move just as fast if they decide that something looks tasty enough
  9. Here is a link to explain how alien4 8) Easy process.. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/posting-pics-in-the-forum-vt2406.html
  10. Glad you asked this Puffadragon... I was looking at doing the same thing, I threw some big locusts in for our dragon Albert to scoff and two started mating in the tank.. next thing the female is laying eggs everywhere... and they are dripping down off the wooden log all down onto the bottom and partially over the dragon, and he had a big scoff on them  I would love to breed some locusts also, or at least give them a whirl too
  11. Yeap fast flowing water duckweed isn't that fond of, it still manages to stick around but doesn't mass as fast... I love putting scoops of duckweed in with our african mbuna, they like it 8)
  12. That is very nice vavoli, great stuff 8)
  13. Thats really good of you Nav 8) How many suitcases you planning on taking?
  14.  Matthew I think it is the good old survival of the fittest... as snookie said or quickest and most cunning... I have often fed out unwanted fry to fish, a long time ago I wouldn't have been able to do it, but I hardened up I guess...

    Snail Eaters

Good fitration then not a problem, and if you keep your substrate pretty clean then not a problem... speaking from experience... We have kept Juru and Suris in with a range of different fish from their regions, large tetras etc, never touched them... the only time they can get bossy is around spawning time, however, even then our pair of very large juru were puppy dogs.
  16.  I didn't read paid work, I read "job" And at least Matthew is onto it

    Snail Eaters

Jurupari and Suris will eat snails, they are substrate sifters and a good snail goes down a treat 8)
  18. Hope you are feeling better and over that attack Feeding Frenzy... 8) Yeap I have a job, it's called being a Wife/Mum... that's the hardest job in the world  Especially when you are out numbered by untidy males
  19. I have had EY exceed well past the 10cm mark... The more females you can have the easier it is on each individual female... 1 male to 2 females may work, but hmmm the more the merrier... They are a pretty laid back mbuna compared to other species, but still the more room the better it is for the fish... I don't really believe in minimum sizes in tanks when it comes to keeping aggressive and somewhat busy species 8) JMO
  20. I would go smaller tank at first ryan, less area for them to have to find their nosh... and meth blue would be ok in a bare bottom tank wouldn't it? We used to use it in tanks with just heater, sponge filter and bare bottom, less things the better huh
  21. Thanks so much Matthew and alanmin for your feedback.... much appreciated. Will definately work out what we are going to do... I would rather avoid tank heaters, if I can so heating is the way to go... 8)
  22. Ouch... sorry to hear of your mishap
  23. How are the spunky fry doing today ryan?
  24. It is 4 metres long (maybe more) by 3 metres wide... approx and 2 metres to highest point. Domesticated female here so not so great with exact measurements  I am thinking fan heaters would throw and distribute the heat around the shed more wouldn't it? More so than oil heaters?
