We have 4 of these guys, and hoping to breed them sometime soonish, even have a love affair going on between a couple of them in the last couple of days.. so here's hoping they are the right sex! Did anyone else out there purchase any of the Dumerilii?, they are a beautiful fish, pictures that I have seen on the net, don't do them enough justice. Thought I might try something non African again for a change  , and really glad we got them. Would love to hear from anyone that has an interest in them. Mekhaela

Hey There We have only recently got 9, we actually ordered 10 and 9 arrived and a 10th one was meant to arrive but they blimmin well sent a lemon tetra (one would hope by accident!) So we have the 9 and they have settled in well.. We also keep the Marlieri. Certainly when we have some fry, they will be offered to fellow African people Will keep you all posted when the time comes. Mekhaela

A friend of ours breeds discus and hes very selective on what he keeps (which is a good thing) He has a resident Oscar who is rather well fed at times. I would cull anything that is needing to be, however, luckily have had near on nothing to cull really, but I guess its only a matter of time! I always remember being told, weak young often make weak adults. JMT Mekhaela Hawkes Bay

Yes well there are those things to think about huh! If that was the case, we wouldn't be moving house, tank comes first! Another reason I am not too keen to silicone in some cases is if I have a female peacock holding a crop of young, I like to get her out to put her in a tank of her own for some peace and quiet to spit the bubs and I can only imagine the frustration in not being able to catch her with siliconed rock work, have had to move the odd rock or two  Oh those flexi bars are great, neat how you can suction them to anywhere in the tank huh. I thought about siliconing my rock arrangment together in one of our African tanks.. BUT my husband did the "roll eye thing", because this particular tank I always seem to pick holes at with each way I set it up, so husband refuses to silicone the arrangment till I am content, the fish in this particular tank must get driven mad by me  So in short, make sure you like it before you silicone it I also have the bubble wall thing in one of my tanks, BUT I am wondering whether I actually need it, it does look nice but it never runs even, always seem to get a burst of really large bubbles now and then and it makes this plopping noise (which isnt so bad, unless you are watching a good movie) The bubble bars are pretty good at keeping away build up tho to a certain extent, but a good power head is always good. Keep those pics coming Mekhaela Hawkes Bay

Are these a pair and what species of Apisto are they?
Afrikan replied to kylefish02's topic in Cichlids
Well this is going to throw the spanner into the works.. But I bought 8 Apistos that look exactly as the ones you have Kyle, Iv'e got 3 males and 5 females BUT I was, what I thought, sent Melgar. Mine are spawning like you wouldn't believe. Will be interesting to see when they mature a bit more.. Mekhaela Hawkes Bay -
Hi Ya Great news that your Jurapari are looking to breed! Mine just spawned on a crypt of all things  Silly woman then kept tugging at the leaf and ripped the darn thing off  Better luck next time round I hope! Mekhaela Hawkes Bay

Hi Everyone I have recently bought some more Apistogrammas from Phil Collis, in the last 3 weeks or so.. I bought them as Apistogramma sp. "melgar".. has anyone bought any of these and breeding them? In the last week I have had 3 spawnings from them.. they just don't stop breeding (which is a good thing!) And I currently have some fry hatched and rest are still wrigglers.. Just interested in anyone else that ordered some of these? Mekhaela Hawkes Bay

Hi There We keep and breed these often, however we keep rather a few females to the one male because our male that we use for breeding is rather bulshy with the girls... but hes certainly the one they seem to want to breed with, must go for the bad boy type  Good Luck! Mekhaela

Hi I have Surinamensis and Jurapari together in a big 6ft tank along with Corys etc... If you actually read up about them on the net, they actually are very much a docile fish, only really getting feisty around spawning time... And the Geo Jurapari certainly doesn't deserve it's common name Devil Fish, they are far from it  I have some young fish in the tank that could be consumed by the Geos however, they don't even bat an eye at them. They really are an awesome fish and once you have the Suri's you won't want to part with them  Mekhaela

There is no need to get personal especially when that person is not an expert of marine keeping or has never professed to be. You are the people that obviously seem to know alot about this subject.. Being insulted is not quite what anyone expects and that is why you got a sharp response.

And we are pretty sure we have an identity of what it is... Gee what lovely people you are.. no wonder I opted to go to an overseas site.
