  1. We always opt for the turn the lights out method and have the odd time done the slip in during feed time method, never had to rearrange tanks... Would love to see some pics of your newbies sometime 8)
  2. Oh yes that's right... Bucket, pronounced Bouquet...
  3.  Yes livingart, it reminded me of Hyacinth Bucket, on Keeping Up Appearances...
  4. Hmmm livingart will be the encyclopedia on bird compatibility I am sure I had heard that hooks and straight beaks are not good combo, not sure as I have only kept budgies and our Alex.. Budgies can definately be housed with other hookbeaks Cam It's lovebirds that can be such a nuisance, so I have heard
  5. I gotta say out of the 3 that you have listed, I love the budgies, especially a nice big brit show bird, with his big fat chest and crown... I love the interaction of budgies, the cleaning each other and beaking each other, very cute and the chit chat... I like canaries too tho... Lovebirds are pretty yet not sure I like the noise they make... she says as she has a big mouthed Alexandrine... However his chit chat is tolerable
  6.  Yes I am System Of A Down crazy.. can't get enough of them, however not everyone is a fan... So thought I better pre warn... glad to see Mark and Tiden have taste  Thanks for the link They are gorgeous fish... have bred two lots now, came home just now and I have about 50-60 it turns out swimming around with ma and pa Have some youngsters out in the shed too... Definately going to keep these going, they aren't overly common in NZ.. So am designating one big tank to them.
  7. Yeah great pics Mark, love the Krib 8) Still hear the freshwater snapper description used even now
  8. They are great fish huh 8) And stunners when they reach adulthood.
  9. Heya guys... I thought I would just share this quick clip of a young Sajica pair and their little brood at the bottom of the flowerpot... they have at least 30-40 fry... You will see a little brown mass at the bottom of the pot, that is the fry huddled together after coming off the side of the flowerpot walls... My camera video is not the best, we are still due for a camera upgrade.. The person on the other end of it isn't much better mind you  Please Note: If you have computer speakers on you might want to turn them down, while I was doing a quick little clip my darn cell phone text tone went off in the background :-?
  10. Here are some past shots taken, have some more recent ones to come at a later date 8) Excuse our camera, we are in dire need of a new one, it's darn well lousey...  Beefcake our Royal Oscar... he is around 13-14 inches Astronatus ocellatus Male Nicaraguan - Hypsophrys nicaraguensis Female Nicaraguan - Hypsophrys nicaraguensis Discus - Male/Female Neolamprologus leleupi Male... Satanoperca jurupari - Male/Female

  16.   Apple snails yum yum!! I have found the majority of our aggressive to semi aggressive cichlids have enjoyed an apple snail or two And not as long term tank mates either... Been there done that ages ago... with not such good results.. also Apple Snails would mow down Lesters plants... :-? Not a good look

  20. Seems that Hans got so excited over showing his masterpiece that he got impatient with the submit button  I have removed the second post incase we all get bombarded with double dose jealousy over his tank  Come on Hans, show us what else ya got
  21. Gee I can't stop my guys spawning no matter what temp tanks are at..
  22. I have kept them between 25-28, been fine and dandy.
  23. So true David R, there is still confusion over the two... we bred a Midas pair, registered them as Midas cichlid along with scientific name.. and we get a cert back for our breeding stating Red Devil and the scientific name... so hmm it's kinda conflicting  So there are many out there that still refer to the Midas as Red Devil, seems that the it has stuck here in NZ?? The fish pictured in the links looks more Midas (maybe X) IMO.
  24.  tinytawnykitten... Yeah I love the name Rory too, his dad from celtic background so Rory it was... I can only imagine it being said with a speech impediment tho  I think if I ever had another boy, I like the name Seth or the name Gabriel.
