  1. Hi all. Read some of more earlier posts. You will learn a lot about fighter breeding.
  2. Hi All, Have please check out a lot of my earlier posts about breeding Fighters. They are easy to breed, hard to get through the labyrinth stage and damned time consuming to rear. I breed them once a year and that is enough for me to look after. Without patting myself on the back; I rear about 98% of the fry that hatch. 8) It takes a lot of time and jars to do them justice. Good luck, but don't ever say you weren't warned.
  3. Hi all. In your case Dixon 1990, I suggest you go to "NORTH END SAND AND SHINGLE" by the PINES. Get some "Blinding Sand", I get a bag full each time I'm down. Mix that with the Daltons and you wont look back when growing plants.
  4. Hi All I know its expensive at certain times of the year, but Zuchinni is excellent and is also useful for Molly's if you have them.
  5. Hi All. All vallisneria species are on the radar as noxious weeds. The only exception I believe is V. spiralis var. tortifolia. If you act sensibly then you can keep it and propagate it in your own tanks. You may not sell, trade, swap or diseminate itto any other person or body.
  6. Hi All Most informative links and well worth reading in full.
  7. Hi All. They are a gimmicky invention, made with the best of intentions but they are just another bit of useless rubbish. I brought one and after two weeks actually threw it in the rubbish bin, and designed my own hatcheries because the brought unit just would not cope with 4 grams per day leave alone the 10grams a day that I need to hatch. It's another case of "YOU PAYS YOUR MONEY: YOU TAKES YOUR CHANCES"
  8. Hi All. And I was the only person that thought I was stupid. How wrong can a person be. Thanks caserole.
  9. Hi Stu I didn't realise you had any; or didnt know anybody who did. I will wait now I know of the reality of these.
  10. Hi All. I have been on the "HUNT" for some for a long time now along with "oryzias sp." and have not been able to actually have a beastie in my hand. Also I have heard that ll the available Endlers are in fact males. That wouldn't matter as after about four generations of crossing with reticulata females the strain will be fixe.
  11. They are just another Chinese made external filter. If you are genuine and really interested, PM me and I will give you the address of the manufacturer and you can deal with them direct.

Hi All Unfortunately I cant get up for the AGM although I was hoping to. Will someone please apologise for my absence.
  13. Hi All I would suggest you put the two girls in seperate jars until he builds a nest and either or both the girls show some interest. If they are not seperated he could possibly kill one or both. I'll try and post some pictures in the morning of my latest brood. Good luck.
  14. Hi All Welcome to the hobby Lang. No the conference is in Nelson but I suggest you talk to Caryl and join the Marlborough Club. Errol President TASMAN AQUARIUM CLUB NELSON
  15. Hi Clare Welcome to the forums; and also welcome to the "Club" I believe. Nice photos, and I do like the Acanthopthalmus semisinctus, "Woops" (Kuhli loaches) they are sods to ctch but you cant beat that cheeky grin they have. Good luck with the hobby.

  20. Hi All,. Doug.I if you have a digital cmera a few pictures might be a very good start, as there are several pet shops and breeders in your area. You might even consider the value of joining your local Nelson Club, where I am certain that there are members who will positvely identify your plants, give you a few more and even help you to understand the hobby, including growing plants in an aquarium.[/b] PM me for further help Good luck.

    tea bags

Hi All Definitely agree with alanmin on the WEST COAST WATER. I get a supply from the Charming Creek stream every time I go down there.
  22. Hi All. I would be starting to pick out the largest now and putting them in jars. The jars can sit on top of a tank and the heat will transfer quite well. I used to sit them right at the back of a tank near the wall to keep the heat even. One thing to be aware of is that rearing fighters is "VERY TIME CONSUMING" as each jar has to be cleaned daily and I would recommend you only feed live food to them in the jars. Some of my earlier posts tell and show how I do it. Congrats and good luck.
  23. Hi All. The catching of any swift moving fish is always a frustrating affair. It can be lessened to a large extent by the use of two nets. One to actually catch the fish, which is half the width of the tank., and another a quarter the width to act as a herding "DOG". It is also a good thing to remember to "keep your cool" and take your time. The more aggressive you are in trying to catch the fish, the faster they react as well. A catch twentytwo situation.
  24. Hi All. Yes jim r, I will certainly be there. I am President and Vice President of both the Hosting Clubs. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of fellow hobbyists from throughout the country and also renewing a lot of old friendships during the time we will have together over the weekend.
