  1. Go back in the forums and read my earlier posts.
  2. Hi All. Go back and read some of my earlier posts about fighters. I only breed them once a year as they are so difficult to get rid of. I average 200 fry reared from a spawning.
  3. Hi All. The plant is Syngonium podophyllum. It is a much used indoor pot plant and terrarium plant but it will gradually decay if submerged in a tropical or cold water tank. It only lasts a few months in the aquarium and is very slow growing.
  4. Hi All, I was offered a "SOLE NEW ZEALAND AGENCY" by the manufacturer of these filters. I asked for samples of this product 9 months ago but the samples still have not arrived and any correspondence with the company is ignored. Trouble was that the same company sells them to anybody who will buy a minimum 1 carton and then T/T the payment in $US to them. TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NO BACKUP OR GUARANTEE WITH THE PRODUCT. The same thing happened when I was investigating importing "RESUN" products. When I complained to the company, they told me; "They must have been sent into NZ from a private person in Australia". How stupid do these PEOPLE think we are. TRADE ME IS GREAT FOR THE "QUICK BUCK" TRADERS  Mod - SW - low level racism has been removed, keep it clean.
  5. Hi All The "Colour" of the transmitted light has a VERY BIG IMPACT on the depth that it will penetrate into a given depth of water. Some "Shades" of red are lost within 2 inches of the surface, the upshot is that to get that "Shade" to penetrate deeper you need more Wattage. That means an increase in lumens and so in turn uses the extra wattage. The calcs are interesting, but as an Electronics Engineer specialising in lighting and effects, I would want to be using the CONVENTIONAL charts to obtain the required result.
  6. Hi All. Carla, for the last 40 years I have been telling all fellow hobbyists to use the "LATIN (Scientific) NAME" for fish so as there is NO ROOM FOR MISUNDERSTANDINGS. As is always happening, I am being told it is too hard to remember them and use the "Common Name" as given by people over the years.
  7. Hi All. With all the Hoo Haa that went on about the GM Danio's, I find it hard to believe that there are still people out there, and those that know who those people are that still have them, and are keeping or "trying" to breed them and have the lack of conscience to "DOB" those people in. To that end it makes them as bad as those who still have those fish. Unforunately the law is the law, and I have expressed my views to MAF via the "OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT". I am prepared to table my letter on the subject and the replies at the conference if needs be. IT DOES NOT MEAN I AM ANTI GM.
  8. Hi All. In all my years in the hobby "Evil", I have only seen pictures of this "Colour Variant" in a couple of books. I have never seen one in "The Flesh" so to speak. I also could not be certain that the specie is Pterophyllum scalare; due to the body having a green cast. The only "Angel" I know of that has this green is Pterophyllum demulleri/leopoldi, and until either of these die I am not going to try and do a "LATERAL LINE" Scale count, or a "FIN RAY" count. But there are others out there that know their fish classification better than I.
  9. Hi all. Well; to put you all out of your misery, and get a few extra Delegates, Observers and Members of clubs to Conference in Nelson, the AMAZONIAN WILL DONATE TWO "ZEBRA ANGELS to the "TASMAN CLUB" FOR A RAFFLE at Conference on Friday Night, 30th May 2008. I will also DONATE TWO "ALTUM ANGEL'S" FOR A RAFFLE THE SAME NIGHT. That is assuming they dont all die on me between now and then.
  10. Hi All So whats with all the "CROSS BREEDING and HYBRIDIZING" that you are alluding to? I have to admit that the thought of these becoming "VeilTails" is pretty strong:  but I dont want to "ADULTERATE" the breed and end up with "MARBLE/KOI" Rubbish. I just want to keep these as they are, BEAUTIFUL.
  11. Hi Wok The DATES ARE 30th MAY until 2nd JUNE.
  12. Hi all, Look at what I just got my little "Cotton Pickers" on. This is no doubt the most gorgeous angel that I have, bar none. I think they are even more beautiful than my "Altum's", and up until I got this pair the Altum's are just another Angel with extremely long fins. I got them on a Friday from an importer, got them home and spawned them on Monday. I was just lucky that I sexed them correctly as they are only the size of an "OLD" FIFTY CENT PIECE. The parents are doing a great job of rearing them. They are not the usual silver but a deep emerald green which is quite irridescent.
  13. If you know anybody that has any of them I suggest you contact "MAF Biosecurity" as soon as possible. Failing to do so does you no credit whatever, and in my book puts you in league with those that still do have them.
  14. Thats the cheapest fare I've ever heard of Auckland to Nelson and return Paul. It's generally $380.00 plus for a return flight. A bit of useless information for you all. Nelson is the forth busiest airport in New Zealand; Tasman Aquarium Club in conjunction with Marlborough Aquarium Club are looking forward to seeing the largest turnout yet to a conference. But we guarantee that however you arrive for conference, I can assure you it will be the best value for money trip you'll get for many a long days march. The social side of the conference sees more information given to people than all the books in a library. That is because people like to talk about their hobby, and with the wealth of knowledge of those that turn up for "Conference" where better than over a quite chilled one and a natter to learn a bit more about the hobby.
  15. Hi All. Check out the data available on these two sites and make your own decisions. www.luxeonstar.com www.lumileds.com/products/line www.surplustronics.co.nz/shop/product The third is another NZ option to check out.
  16. Hi All. The LUXEON driver and LED units are available from "JAYCAR" Electronics. They are available in 1 Watt; 3 Watt; and 5 Watt. Colours are 1 Watt; 25 Lumens per 1 Watt $21.00 approx. each RED ORANGE GREEN WHITE ROYAL BLUE WHITE...Side Emitting. 3 Watt; 80 Lumens per 3 Watts $36.00 approx. each WHITE RED AMBER GREEN BLUE WHITE...Side Emitting 5 Watt; 120 Lumens per 5 watts $83.00 approx. each. WHITE. The driver for these lamps is between $23.00 and $$36.00 approx. each. These are not the only units available; there are a lot more that I can source as an "ELECTRONICS ENGINEER" Good luck
  17. Hi All, I've just put up my A. Mc masteri to breed and the pair of them seem to know whats required of them.
  18. Hi All. In reply to cheesejawa; I dont think that everybody tries to breed "ALBINO'S"; of anything. If you understand genetics, and all that relates to "Albinism" then you would understand that to breed "Albino's", you must have a pair of "Albino's" to start with. However, as "Albino" is a recessive gene, the offspring of the parents may only give a small percentage of albino's and the remainder would be "NORMAL" as "normal" is the dominant gene. In the case of my Angel's they are rare because the parents are just common "Pterophyllum scalare", Silver Angels that usually have bred true but now they have given me a small amount of "Albino's".
  19. Hi All. Well, water changes just don't cut it, I'm sorry. The new water you put back in the tank acts as a "tonic" and new food for the algae so it goes on and on. I am always advocating feeding your fry "GREEN WATER", well nows your chance to start breeding in ernest and utilise the green water. Unfortunately cutting off the light to the tank is also a bad move as the Algae will die and rot starting another problem for you. If the Green is that bad I suggest stripping the tank and disinfecting it with a very strong salt solution and then restart. Alternatively buy a UV sterilizer. Good Luck.
  20. Hi All. I would suggest that you dont shift the single angel in with the pair Aaron. The dominant (alpha) Male will more likely than not kill it., and at least it would be picked on continually until it lies on it's side and dies. This is a sad fact of Angel fish Life. I had trouble with my Black male after he had been on his own for a while and then introduced him to a new girl. He wasn't interested in her but only having the space to himself. he is nowin a tank on his own again with big gouramis who had the run of the tank and set up their territory. Good Luck.
  21. Hi All. Albinism is caused by a lack of "melanin" in the cells of the body. As a consequence the colour of an "Albino" can vary slightly but the main thing is that there is NO BLACK PIGMENT in the eyes. They are always pink. Just like these Angels, but you can notice the outline of the stripes and the overall blush of yellow. These are as rare as the proverbial rocking horse stuff.
  22. Hi All. Stargazer, it is not possible to keep two males together in small tanks. If you must keep two in the same tank then I suggest you keep it in a REALLY BIG Pickle jar and float it in the tank. I would even suggest that maybe you could also place a LARGE Jar on "Top of the Tank" as the heat would transfer into it. Good luck.
  23. Hi All. You are right on the money alanmin4303. I have postesd a lot of information with pictures about the breeding and rearing of fighters. If you look at earlier posts in the anabantid section you will be able to view them.
  24. Hi All I wouldn't mind buying a couple of trios for my collection. I haven't seen Jordonella around in the shops for yonks. If you or anybody is selling some please PM me.
