  2. Hi all I recall vividly that it was not too long ago Lake Karapiro was full of the stuff.
  3. Hi All, MEETING THIS FRIDAY 18th at 7:30pm. 2 ALDINGA AVENUE ................... STOKE
  4. You are right on the money Barrie, However, if a hobbyist wanted to drill a tank with the minimum fuss, expense and the problems of moving or dismantling a "Large" tank then I consider that my option would be right up with the best.
  5. Hi All. Well, way back (35 years ago) we used to drill glass with a crude device that we made to do the job. You could even use it in an ordinary everyday electric drill with variable speed to do the drilling. We got a small piece of copper tube the diameter of the hole we wanted; we then got an engineering shop to "turn up" a mandrel to fit the inside diameter of the copper tube, and with a shaft to fit the drill ( about 8mm). This was then soldered (you could bronze it in) to the tube which then became the "DRILL" when the tube cut to about 25mm long. The glass or tank was setup and a "PLASTICINE' dam was built around where the hole was to be drilled. This was filled with a mixture of "AUTOMOTIVE VALVE GRINDING PASTE AND WATER". You then placed the "drill into the centre of the "dam" and began drilling. This method still works today, but the glassiers find it easier and quicker to use the "Modern Technology. Good Luck.
  6. Hi All. UNFORTUNATELY PEOPLE STILL KEEP SELLING DEFORMED GUPPIES. The uninitiated buy them and they breed (as they will) and the offspring get sold or swapped and so it goes on, ad infinitum. It's about time breeders started culling deformed fish at lot sooner than they do and stop giving away those deformed fish.. "FEED DEFORMED FISH TO FISH THAT CAN EAT THEM"

Hi All. I am wanting to buy some "Leopard Fish", if anyone has some to sell. I want to get eight females and two males. If there is anybody in the Wellington Region that has some, I would be prepared to "SWAP" three of my young "Altum Angels" for the Leopards, but I need to know by Thursday night at the latest; PM me if you can help. Errol

  12. Hi All, For what it's worth, I keep and breed "ALL" my six colour varieties of angel's and my Altum's at "ROOM TEMPERATURE". The Thermostats in the tanks may be set to 26 degrees, but the fish room temperature can, and does reach 30.9 degrees which overrides the thermostats in the tanks. I have no trouble at all breeding any of my Angel's as any Nelsonian can tell you.  If it works for you then it isn't broken so don't start trying to fix it. Good luck
  13. Hi All thanks for all the help. I didn't think there was a "Fresh Water" beastie, but I dont know it all.
  14. Hi Again. This may be of interest to you all. http://journals.tubitak.gov.tr/veterina ... 002-19.pdf The AMAZONIAN KNOWS HEAPS.
  15. Hi All Alan is correct. Quinine is a good drug: I recommend you to use it in it's "SULPHATE" form as opposed to "HYDROCHLORIDE" as it reacts faster and is more stable and user friendly when it comes to dosage. "QUINALDINE" is an anaesthetic and is not aligned to "QUININE" and is akin to Zylocaine and Lignocaine in it's actions except it slows the response to movement. It is a muscle relaxant.. I would venture to say it is about the same as "DIAZEPAN" from memory. (And thats pretty Bad these days)
  16. Hi All Aqui-S (excuse the spelling) is what they use to "KILL" fish:................... Remember the ZEBRA DANIO DEBARCLE. They used it to destroy them. Quinaldine is a tranquilizer and is sprayed at the fish in the sea and they "Just Stop" on the spot. you can then hold out your hand and grab them. It lasts for about two / three hours and doesn't affect the fish.
  17. Hi All Looks to me like a "POTOMOGETON" specie that we used to get from the Whaiwhetu Stream in Lower Hutt. They may be still there for all I know.
  18. Yep, out in the middle of Cook Strait, down deep with a "PLANKTON" net. Good luck
  19. Hi All You can also use "QUINALDINE' if you can find it.. We used it years back to catch marine fish in the wild.
  20. Hi All, I only ever use KEROSINE in my Cutter's and they last and work fine.

    QUERY TIME

Hi All. Not being of the "Cold Water" persuasion I would like some help please. Does anybody know of a "COLDWATER FISH" that looks Like "NEMO" and is called a "PARROT FISH", I think. All assistance gratefully appreciated.
  22. Hi All. "Kribs" where put on the earth for the benefit of the LFS. If you get a pair they WILL BREED and you need another tank, and another tank, and another tank:................OH, BUGGER. I see another case of MULTIPLE TANK SYNDROME in the making.
  23. Hi All I made NO STATEMENT that TDS Meters were "NEW" as such; only being used by hobbyists for the last few years, and they have a long way to go. They are basicly a commercial tester and as such I don't personally think they will become over popular with anyone other than commercial operators.
  24. Hi Ryanjury All testers come with their own specific test buffer solution. When that's used up (which should take years) you go back to who you bought the unit off and buy some more. All testers need their own solution to be kept accurate. There is NO HIT & MISS QUICKIE FIX.
