    The What's Up? thread.

Going back to school after working 5.5 weeks of my 6 weeks off, what a break
  2. http://tvnz.co.nz/one-news/2013-07-21-video-5515992 Skip to 2:50.
  3. Just picture a disgusting staghorn hidden mess. Writing this off as a total failure, other plans for this tank in future.
  4. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64200 Have a look here and fill out the form if you're keen.
  5. I'm also going with the two Sunsuns, a good clean is usually all they need.
  6. Worth a watch! Bonus points for fish related :sml1:
  7. What do we do if new members want to join for the rest of this year? Do they get sent out as we pay their capitations?

    The What's Up? thread.

I've been between gravel, sand and planted stuff. I've come to the conclusion that something finer than 3mm with a nice rich base under it is the best combo. Although annoying for rescaping... :digH:

    The What's Up? thread.

Great work Caryl! I got some pool filter sand today, it's fine and light, I like it. Here's a few photos compared to the standard 6mm Autumn Harvest.
  10. Although drop checkers can be tricky too. Some tanks will crash if it goes far above green (safe) and others I push it way past yellow (dangerous) and the fish are still fine. Again, trial and error. Just wait until you get the CO2 rig, then you'll get a real feel for it.
  11. The bubble counter is for counting bubbles, often expressed as BPS or bubbles per second. It's not a standard unit of measurement due to differences in the size of bubbles produced by different counters, it's only a guide for the tank it's applied on. You must also take into account the efficiency of diffusion. Really, it's all trial and error.
  12. To move your plants, simply remove them from where they are now. Nothing special, just don't damage them when you do so. They shouldn't die, they probably won't die. If your tank looked great with plants before, keep the new tank the same and you'll keep having a great looking tank. Don't fuss around with CO2 if you don't need to!
  13. For the diffuser either Valray on Trademe or fish-street.com. The later will take a couple of weeks to arrive. As far as stocking goes, I'd ditch the hatchets. Cardinals should be okay in that size but I'd get 10-15 and keep an eye on the gouramis. If they don't get along well, there isn't a lot of room to hide.
  14. Did you buy your fighter from a pet store by any chance? When you buy from the store they can be 1-1.5 years old already, they sell them at this age because this is when their fins are the largest. Fighters only live around 1.5-2 years anyways and are sensitive to all kinds of things. Buying from a breeder is best.
  15. I'll be interested to see the hardscape, tanks this size aren't easy to fill!

    Jumpers

I've had minnows, guppies and harlequins jump before. There's always that risk, be sure you're willing to take it.

    Hello!

Welcome to the fishroom Gema! Would love to see photos of your aquariums
  18. I take it you filled out the above form and emailed it to me? :smln:
  19. I don't have any three foot tanks, would a pair be suited to a 60x30x30 aquarium Jen? I can imagine that looking a bit empty though, what else can they go with?
  20. What are their personalities like? I can imagine people buying one male if they have a personality like a Betta. More of a pet than a hobby.
