  1. HIya Alan, you will probably find that most people use porridge with a teaspoon of yeast added in, at least that what I use. But I have also heard that people use a slice of bread with marmite or vegemite spread on it aswell. B

    Hello

Hi and Welcome lae, this is a great site and there is plenty of info and great people to be mfound here.
  3. I think shae, that maybe you should of exlained that in your post then, as anyone who doesn't know about it, may just flag on the diving and go do something else instead. if you want to recomend something it is usaully good to recomend a reason for saying that then they have an idea of what to expect, and decide whether or not they want to go there. Ender, how long are you going to be here for, and where abouts in wellington are you going to be basing yourself, would be good to meet up at some stage if it is possible. B
  4. AN absolutely awesome book, thanks Henry and also thanks to my baby Mystic for buying it for me. :bounce: B

  7. This is true, BUT I use a plain old metal wheel cutter and have absolutely no probs at all, and it is far more reasonably priced, for the home jobs and if you arn't cutting much, or doing it regularly. B

  9. congrats simfish, that is looking awesome, can't wait to see a few more pics down the track with the plants established and growing and some fish in there. Any ideas on what you may like to put in it? B
  10. I wonder if it is a type of mould or fungi, not sure if there are types that stay submerged and the bits that stick up could be a seed pod of sorts. B
  11. What does/did it feel like, was it squidgy or hard. It looks almost like a type of fungi, when looked at closely, but Caryl, could be on the money with the java moss. B

    Heloo!

Hey barney and welcome, Great to see you have started large with your tanks. Plenty of information to be had and plenty more to be extracted. If you want to get in touch with greg he uses tanks2u as his user name here also and you can send him a private message, rather than hoping he reads this section and contacts you. B

    Microworms

Hey All, Not sure where this should be posted, so am posting here anyways. i was wondering if anyone knows when microworms attach themselves to fry,, are they devouring the fry, or merely attached to them. Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated. Cheers B
  16. Man, I must of really annoyed NZ Post somewehre, as the last few and this one included are always late, MV gets hers and I have to wait around a week for mine. B
  17. What dissappoints me the most is that people have found the time to visit the forums and make posts still yet they ( judging by the amount of forms warren has) haven't been able to find the time or sacrifice the forum visit, to fill in some forms and help us all keep a diverse range of livestock for our tanks. This is not aimed at anyone in particular, it is a generalisation, and if you have filled forms in please get them to Warren ASAP and do not take this personally. B
  18. hi And Welcome Starlyte, great to see another local here on the forums. if you want to join a club, send me a pm about the kapi mana club, and I will send you the details. B
  19. Hey iisfaq, Try your local garden centre or hydroponics store, they may be able to help you. The only stuff close to that in the picture I have seen is a finer mesh for the fly screen doors. Available in fibre glass, so you don't have to worry about it rusting in your tank. hope This Helps B
  20. Ok, then, send the forms throught to warren directyly please
  21. Come on all you fish keepers out there. Mystic and I have submitted a few of our fish, and intend on doing more this week, but we need more people to help and take ownership of thier fish by filling in the form and taking a photo of the fish and getting these forms to either warren or your club pres. We need to ensure we capture te entire load of fish in new zealand, otherwise we will be stuck with a small selection of fish, and then breeding for the hobbie will be great, but you won't be able to move the young on due to a small selection of fish available in NZ. NOT to mention the limited viewing pleasure we will have in our own personal aquariums at home. We will all have the same fish and visiting other members tanks ( and homes) will lose it's appeal due to us all having the same fish. I repeat, we now need everyone to play thier part where pssible and get these forms filled out, and into Warren's hot little hands as soon as we can. I'm not sure, but think we have one week, thats right ONE WEEK left to get this done. Come on guys, show us your dedication to the hobby. Thanks B

    Pearl Gouramis

you should be able to source some daphnia from a member on the forums here or alteratively you can get them from most stock troughs. The bugs you saw, could quite possibly be dapnia, most people feed them lettuce leaves and a few feed banana skins, although most find they foul the water to quickly. they can be kept in plastic barrels, but make sure they don't get too warm or they will all die off on you. I find that all fish like them, and enjoy chasing the live food, they are a low source of vitamins and proteins although make a great alternative source of food to flakes and pellets, also you could try and get hold of some white worms, which the fish also love and are easy to culture. B
  23. We use Daltons Propogating sand in ours, can be attained from most garden centres. B
  24. Are saltwater, or is it in the wrong topic???
