    killies

Hey all, Just wondering what was available in the way of killies in the wellington area, would like to expand on our starting point of Gold Lineatus. Would take donations, but also willing to pay a reasonable price for them. And yes Alan, I will look into the NZKA, ONCE I have a few more, need to get some space sorted for them. So really just seeing who has what, and which ones they would be willing to part with some of. B
  7. you can also use chelated iron, diluted in water to add iron to the tank. i found out about this from Cees via Jude. thanks guys B
  8. you can add fertiliser sticks or balls to the base of the plants, but if the fish have been in there a week, you will be getting a sort of sedimentary layer forming in the gravel that they will start feeding from. Also make sure that it's just the roots that you have planted, as some plants don't like having the base of the stem pushed into the gravel and they rot out due to having no circulation round it. B
  9. How long had the fish been in there before the plants went in. Had the tank had any fish in it previously. I have found this can happen in tanks that are relatively new and also in tanks that have been well cleaned, as there are no nutrients in the gravel for the plants to absorb, therefore they struggle to survive and stasrt to break down. Also what plants are they, as they may not be true aquatic plants at all. B

  13. great tanks shuih, looks like you have changed the setup a little since we were there last. Looks good, and can vouch for the fact that this is setup in limited space.
  14. It looks like a female but it is hard to tell. the males dorsal fin usually gets a thin strip extending back toewards the tail and the females is a little more rounded. At least they are on ours, but ours are a little bigger than what the lfs sells.
  15. that is a dwarf flag cichlid, I have a breeding pair of these as does shae now Laetacara curviceps http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_curviceps.php B

  17. I personally would stay away all together, due to them feeding on things in the water and the water not being a gaureenteed uncontaminated source. B

    Hello

Hi and Welcome WTM plenty of us here in the wellington region and also the local fish club is going strong if you are interested in visiting us. Details can be found here about the meetings : http://www.kmac.5gigs.com/ B
  20. Can't help with the plague problem sorry aftaburn, but why not organise a night, put flyers up at the local supermarket, and on the community notice boards saying that there is an aquarium enthusiasts meeting and you are more than welcome to come along. Then all you have to do is sort out a venue and have peple call you to register interest. You might even be able to convince someone to come along and have a chat if it takes off. Or use it as an aquaria info evening and then broach the subject of a club at the end of the night. B
  21. The way I see it is he would like to know how to keep them in the display for 2 weeks. So he would need things like a bit of water current in the tank, along with bugs and gits of meat for feeding, preferably a place for them to hide, maybe duplicating a stream bank. and would need to be a darkish tank, seen as they are mostly nocturnal. B
  22. I don't think snapfish allow hotlinking, try moving your pics to some where like www.photobucket.com B
  23. Hi And Welcome Darryl, great site as you have found out already, and pay no notice to caryl's post, i'm sure there is a reason for her unusual way of remembering your name B

    new to this site

Hi and welcome Bulldog, great to hear of mre fishkeepers out there, sad tho that yoou cut down the tank count. We are currently sitting at 12 tanks(mysticvampyre and I) and love every minute of it. Heaps of info to be found here and heaps of great people. Also if the fancy should take you there is the chat link at the top of the page and a group of us meet there most nights round 9pm. B
  25. we have been having the guppy prob for about a month, but we seem to have had no losses for about 3 days now. It was an old fashioned clean, dismantled everything and gave it a good clean and set everything back up. Then aquirred guppies through private breeders rather than through the lfs, so fingers crossed. B
