Hi and Welcome fishgirl, greatcollection of tanks and fish you have there, One problem with this site is ............................ you will find that your tank numbers and fish numbers will increase the more you read about different fish and setups. B

    Algae Cure

we have b/n's in the tank, one female normal and two golden, but no joy. have had chinese algae eaters in the past before and they were more interested in the bottom feeder pellets. B
  9. Hey All, Quick question to see if anyone has a surefire way or ridding a 660ltre tank of green and black/dark brown algae. it is growing on the rocks we have in the tank and is starting to pop up in the gravel aswell( the balck stuff more so). We are wanting to add, a stack of plants to this tank, but would love to treat it first. it is running two internal filters plus a cannister filter, and we have loaches and eels in this tank. Have tried algae rid before on other tanks with very limited success, and was hoping someone could recommend something other than stripping the tank down and cleaning it all. Cheers in advance B
  10. the only prob you may find is that once the fry are out and swimming round the angels will pick them off, depending on the size of the angels tho. All the Best. B

    Guppy deaths

I did see it thanks Bill, unfortunately it happened after we lost most of ours. We now have 5 guppies from the original stock, they are in a tank by themselves, downstairs in the fishroom, I thought about the water parameters swinging Stu, but it should of affected others in the tank before it affected the guppies, and the thing that stumped us the most was the fact that the "flesh" was rotting for want of a better term, from in between the sinewy bits in the tail. Thanks for all your help guys, but we have learnt our lesson and will purchase off private Breeders only from now on. B
  12. Awesome, congrats Grandaddy Alan, and all the best tpo the new addition

  14. Hiya all, We have a mystery Syno, we know that it is a Synondontis of some sort, but can someone tell us what it is please. Cheers
  15. hey snowman, We had something similar, we purchased 6 guppies from animates and over a period of 2-3weeks they died and took out all but 6 of our guppies plus 3 neon, 3 rummy noses and a couple of small hara hara cats. Not sure what it was, but some did the same as you have explained, some were fine one day and dead the next while others had the tail disintergrate, but left the sinewy bits that support the tail. Conclusion, don't buy guppies from your lfs, and since this has happened we got a refund on the 6 we purchased and both animates here in wellington will no longer stock them. no help, but at least you know you are not alone in it. B

  17. I tend to agree with Jude it looks like a peace lily, and the pointed ends and general shape of the leaf is what makes me think that. how is the plant going at the moment, is it growing or showing signs of die back. B
  18. Looking good clarkeymaster, they all look real nice. However in Future can we all make sure we use the members tank section to post pictures of our tanks for people to see. Cheers B
  19. Have a look at this written by Pegasus on tank stocking. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=1372 Cheers
  20. hadn't thought of the attach to the shower hose idea Bill Must try that one( muttered to himself as he treks down the hall towards the bathroom wqith garden hose in hand) B
  21. we just use a garden hose to syphon out of the tank, and put the outlet end out the closet window, then it rolls up and gets put out of the way till the next one as for filling in comes the garden hose and a couple of buckets of warm water and again the hose gets wound up and stored. Easy B
  22. cos we read alot, we don't go out often therefore our cars last longer

    Gidday!

Hi Todd and welcome, Plenty of info here, and as caryl has said, check the adult size first as there is nothing worse than keeping it and then having to move it on cos it is too big. Of course then you could always just buy a bigger tank. If your free a few of us meet in chat most nights round 9pm, hop in and join us, we chat about fish once in a while. B
