  1. its a great start. just let things grow and every now and then add another plant in there. took me a while to get my tank to be that jungle look.
  2. stink, thats typically the case.
  3. where abouts is that quoted from?
  4. theyre fine, they just dont fit nz sockets. you just need to get the plugs changed over which you can legal do yourself.
  5. were always nice! its just friendly constructive critisim...
  6. im really annoyed about not getting the albino one i saw at HFF too, i was but thought na ill get a pair from somewhere else. ps anyone got any of the albino (red eye) koi varient?
  7. i got a few young ones left after the parents i got from myfishybusiness jumped out of my tank, serves me right for not putting a lid on. did see some an HFF albany today, only about 3 though
  8. and i would have 2 siphon u tubes for redundancy. u really want both boxes to be bolted/glued together as suction cups can and will fail and what would happen if your box fell into the tank. overflowed tank and a dry sump with an overheating pump in it.
  9. the tube size your talking about, is that of the u tube/ siphon or the length of pipe that connects to the barb fitting at the bottom of the box? and are you buying the overflow or DIY?
  10. thats whats refered to as a siphon type overflow, generally avoided as the top of the u pipe can trap air and can cause your tank to flood, but if you keep an eye on it and regulary bleed it it will be fine. drilled type of overflows are generally preferred thought, with the 2000L/h pump at 1.2m giving 1200l/h into the tank the siphon wont be able to support it if it will only allow 300l/h into the sump. have i got that right?
  11. box? what? im confused... basically what ryan said. have you got a drawing of what your planning as some of the stuff your saying is a bit muddles up, like the tube that pumps? have you done some research into sumps as its best to have a well thought through plan before diving into things.
  12. what are you stocking the tank with? african cichlids or you having a planted tank? as if its an african i would go with the 2000l/hour pump. yea the overflow sounds a little weird to me too. and canisters dont work too good pumping uphill
  13. i would think the same, and have a mesh over the top of each divider
  14. or same as ryans and rince alot with water then add some water conditioner not shure i would trust myself with vinegar in the fishroom
  15. yea. ive got a 2 inch substraite in my planted tank, 1inch daltons aquatic mix and the other a fine brown gravel. ive only got bristle noses digging under logs and they havnt even gotten to the daltons yet. i guess that if you throw another bag of silicone sand in there the fish will move it around again as they please.
  16. how deep is the sand? if its only 2cm deep i would expect it to happen occasionally
  17. last time i visited myfishybuisness all i rember is discus and guppies. i recon try a diffrent type of breeder, like a mouth bruder or scaterer like a tetra/barb. and they will be easy to onsell.
  18. wow hes truely pale, the albinos i have all have some sort of patterning.
  19. cardinals or some other schooling tetra.
  20. lol bet you tried to get a few fish from the bottom tank. ive found lincon road to be a good animates to go to, aslong as you get the right person
  21. thats correct for fresh water fish, well the importer quarantines them for 6 weeks and maf regularly visits. salt water fish is for less time, IIRC its only 3 weeks
  22. quick google came up with this, http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.ph ... rei&id=404
  23. depending on the decorations you could put a physilal divider between the two halves of the tank. has the yellow pair had fry or just eggs?
  24. and for the non car related, was abseiling on the cliff face to the left of the hunua falls and after umpteen times going down the practice wall (thats not vertical and rather small) using figure eights, i was to be the first of the group to go down (apart from the guy who set up the line). so i rocked up to the top of the cliff and was told to put a device on called a rack instead of the normal figure eights. and the way these things work is that theres multiple bars across it and depending on how many bars you wrap the rope around you get different resistances (from memory 4 bars normal person, 5 for a larger and 3 for a kid) so the instructor wraped it around 3 bars and off i went..... without enough friction on this thing to be able to stop myself so skidded down the side of the cliff to a well positioned 20cm ledge that i was able to stand on and hurl abuse to the abseiling instructor until he came down the second line, adjusted my rack and sent me happily on my way. but he cheeted his way back to the top by prusiking. (red is where i started the decent and green is where i found that ledge, all when i was about 13)
