Awesome tank!

Hey everyone, I'm planning a 60cm half cube planted tank with a 10cm back partition to hide all the equipment. It will be 60cmLx60cmWx30cmH 10cm of the back will be sectioned off by a piece of glass where I'll put all the hardware. The overflow will be in the middle. On the right I'll put the out/in for a cannister filter - the return pipe would fit through a hole in the glass and enter the aquarium directly. On the left I'd keep the heater and a separate pump to get some extra flow in there. I wanted to get some feedback on what you guys think about this type of setup? Particularly the back section - is there anything I've missed? Here is a pic in case my explanation sucks:

Hey everyone, I was kind of active a few years ago; although I mostly lurked. I quit because of Uni and now that I've finished I decided to get back into the hobby. The plan is to start a small/med planted tank that requires minimal upkeep. I wanted to go for a marine nano, but at this point it's going to be too expensive so I've decided to put it off for 6-12 months. So thats pretty much it, I have some ideas for the new tank so you'll see me posting in the forums

www.aquastyleonline.com have some good cheap kits. If you want something more high end then Rapid LED is where you can get a really nice kit. There is also a very good thread on nano-reef.com about these kits in particular and tons of other info about LEDs in small aquariums But tbh you don't need anything more than a CFL to grow just about anything in that tank, something along the lines of 6W should do it

Yes you can use clay-only kitty litter with no smell added. But when daltons aquatic mix is so cheap why would you? Kitty litter is not going to be much better than it(if at all) and will probably cost more

No, its only 3.5W. If you want to go LED then its best to do it DIY - check out aquastyleonline.com for some cheap kits The other options are a 150W MH or some T5's

Its a very fine line between tax evasion (illegal) and tax avoidance (legal). Basically you need to have the intent to pay taxes, you're just reducing the amount

RO water is perfectly pH 7.0, if you mix it with your normal water it will only go up, which as you said isn't the best for discus etc. Im not sure what 'good' minerals you're talking about, unless you want to keep plants RO water should be fine I think.

Colombian tetras would work well as a replacement for the silver dollars. And you could get a moonlight gourami instead of the silver shark. Another fish that is blue is the electric blue german rams, which could replace the fighter. So a possible stock list is: Cochu Blue Tetra - 20+ Colombian tetras - 9 Moonlight Gourami - 4 Electric Blue Ram - 2/4 Bristlenose - 1 to keep the tank clean The tank will have to be 3ft, preferably 4ft and have a canister filter. You're unlikely to find any of these fish being bred, apart from maybe the rams, so either keep an eye on Trademe or buy them slowly from a fish shop
