  1. i used the same method as sharkie, i just got my scraper from the $2 shop
  2. yea i found the freeze dried stuff really good, they floated for quite a while which is good for my bettas and my fussy angels wont eat anything that touches the substrate loved them, kept a slow trickle of worms infrount of their faces for them unlike flake where it all seems to sink quite fast. and ild pefer the freeze dried over the frozen becouse its soooo much easier to handle
  3. true, but how do you get it started in the first place?
  4. yea its all good untill the siphon breaks in the pipes, if that happens the sump will empty itself into the tank and sepending on size of the tank, can flood it and burn the pump out
  5. ive found that a mix of 1 male and about 5 females is about right, but make shure that the girls in the shop are girls, not short finned males. I learnt that the hard way 3 males later...
  6. ive got a yellow guy similar to what you just described but with mine he has to be in the same tank as the girls otherwise he sulks and his fins all clamp up. also another problem i got with the whole breeding thing is keeping the fry alive after the fathers gone, ive been trying the technique where the tank is left alone for 2 weeks before starting the waterchanges, just wondering how soon and how often they do their water changes?
  7. round yellow and size of a grapefruit? hmm. might have another go with him and a peanut butter lid, dont think the missus will be happy about me leaving the lid off the peanut butter though. I got polystyrene and floating plants in there which has worked for all my others, just not this one, will give that a try tonite though cheers
  8. Hey ive got a nice red male that i have been trying to breed from but he is just being stubborn and wont build a nest! ive tried having the female in a jar in his tank for over 3 days and tried it for another 4 days with her running around inside the tank but he wont build a nest for the eggs, he did however embrace her, and let the eggs fall. does anyone have any tips on encouraging males to build a nest? i even tried having a jared male in the tank aswell.
  9. yea that link dosent always work for me too, just try it at i diffrent time
  10. I found this website a while back which was very interesting, has alot of good information and a huge history about the diffrent tail types and how and who created them http://bettysplendens.com/articles/home.imp
  11. yes i had this happen too, i had a male in with 3-4 females and the male developed a tumor on his side which hindered him from swimming upright so the other females held him upright against the tank until he finally died
