  1. 10 gallon - 40 litres? They should be fine and they do not need to be from the same spawn, being females. However there are times - like when there is a big low pressure system around - females will fight, just like males do. I used to keep many females in tanks that size. Just make sure the water conditions are kept optimal.
  2. I'm going to suggest it is because of the inability of some members to reduce their image size to a manageable amount. That was what has caused it previously and why images were not hosted on the site as such. While we up the size they can use it is not going to help, the requirement to downsize images should be followed. That time of night is also the time that overseas viewers will be trying to get on.
  3. I would hope that if there is any around then it is given to you. There is something morally wrong with taking a native plant from the wild and then selling it to make money
  4. All fish were re-homed by Sunday. Great result.
  5. Yes yours is a nice boy Sophie. I hope you find a female that will do him justice and assist in the colouring be passed on.
  6. The last trade me link - the fish tail type is not halfmoon even though it is advertised as that.
  7. It is near impossible to identify crypts unless they are left to flower which pretty much means growing them emersed. Have a look at the plant database on this website for positive ID's.
  8. You could also try the LFS as sometimes they have old tanks out the back just waiting to get rid of them.
  9. This is becoming an ever increasing issue. People selling and then moving with no thought about the fish they are walking off and leaving, nor the new owners who never wanted the goldfish they have just discovered in the murky mess that was the existing pond on the proeprty.
  10. Welcome and yes, please post pics. We all love to see them
  11. Posting on behalf Casey is a Real Estate agent with a property in Manurewa, with probably 300 - 400 goldfish in a pond that the owners have left behind. The new owners want nothing to do with it and the pond is going to to be filled in, fish and all if they are not removed, within a week. If you have ponds with space for goldfish would you please telephone him 021 227 3911. Thanks
  12. I'm guessing you aren't getting many replies because what shops get in in the way of Arowana is what the three main importers mostly bring in. There are a couple of smaller importers here but cost sometimes relates to the quality of the fish and the number in each shipment as MPI fees are pretty high. To get a high quality arrowana its probably going to come with CITES and microchip hence the high quality price tag.
  13. Nope cos Santas helpers arrive in the parades and malls before then too
  14. We don't pay our electricity so I wouldn't have a clue what its costing us and we also have 36 solar panels on our roof so to my reckoning - on the days the chiller is running hard at it then we must be taking in a whole lot of power through our panels. Last summer we returned 2/3rd of it to the grid. I am lucky in that my 500A won't be pumping to a head height so that will help it as it will also be maxed out on the tank and sump.
  15. Interesting to see how long the 500A takes to drop the temp in your tank Shilo. I have the 300A on my 250 litre marine and have just purchased a 500A for my new marine build. My 300A only comes on for a couple of mins at a time fortunately as its on the wall that backs to our bedroom. We have 'led light' windows in our lounge area and I find leaving those open certainly reduces the heat within the room. Any high up in the room windows that can be opened are great. I also leave my cabinet door open at night an if I am out during the day to give the chiller more air space.
  16. What do the others look like. If they are fat and healthy looking then i would wait. Sometimes female guppies do die after giving birth - after all it must take a lot out of them. If you see the others starting to lose weight despite being well fed then I would recommend you give it a try.
  17. As long as you are not on private property, I guess so. That's how others do it. Remember though that freshwater shrimp are not tropicals and do require careful acclimation to the tank.
  18. 2. looks like a crypt but you won't get a positive ID on what type unless you let it flower. Getting it to flower means you will most likely need to grow it emerged. 3. looks like a clump of hair grass. If it is hair grass you are best to split it up and plant it as individual stems/roots so you get better coverage. 1. may also be a crypt. Price should tell you - the above plants are generally more expensive than the stem plants sold in shops - most of which are grown emmersed and do not always convert to submersed very easily, if at all.
  19. If its worms/parasites or a disease then yes.
  20. Well there is skinny (as in need more feeding), in which case high quality food, not necessarily bloodworms which are full of fat, will fill them up and then there is skinny as in stomachs sunken in so inverting. If its the second it is likely to be worms, maybe a parasite, or wasting disease hence my asking if you can post a photo. HFF sells praziquantel in liquid form. They are licensed to do so. Formalin is also an alternative however prazi is safer for you to use than formalin.
  21. They may need feeding, or worming. By skinny what do you mean? Can you post some photos, and are they eating? Did you see them drop the fry or have you seen fry?
  22. Make sure herons, cats etc can't get them.
  23. I would think Liam means behind - the lake in western springs itself is home to the pest bullhead catfish and eels but I believe it is also illegal to remove anything from it and probably anything else within the Western Springs 'park' area.
  24. Thanks. They are a good choice and if you get a pair will breed in the tank. They do become slightly aggressive when raising fry but the ones I had were not too bad. I would consider some sort of cleaner fish - I am thinking like cory which are good waste eaters however once again they do need a group - at least four. You can get mid sized ones ie Julii and perhaps a bristlenose to eat some of the inevitable algae.
  25. Try brineshrimp again. Once you get it going it is not hard to do. You may have been using old eggs.
