  1. Where are you - if you edit your profile to include your location you may find some local fishkeepers are willing to share any they may have with you.
  2. Heres my thoughts - Pearl Gourami will get too large as they max out around 12cm in length (they are stunning fish and my favourite gourami). Harlequins look fabulous in groups. Rummynose also are great in groups, they may spawn in your tank (they are egg scatterers), mine certainly did but it is not a common occurance. Black neons are also great in groups, a bit more prone to disease than harlequins and rummynose. 2 GBR's (for the life of me I cant think what they are). Do you mean GBA's - golden blackeyed ancistrus? So harlequins, rummynose and black neons are all compatible and it depends on whether you want several smaller groups of fish or one larger one. As far as gourami go, there don't - to my recollection - seem to be any mid sized. They either group larger or are the dwarf species, and dwarf species are susceptible to stomach issues. JJwooble on here has bred dwarf honey and is selling her young ones at the moment. Possibly being NZ bred they will be healthier. If you decide not to go gourami have a look around for another feature fish.
  3. I am delighted to see that you have done the research needed and gotten a chiller before you put the natives in the tank. Shilos advice is good and sound. If you haven't already, take a look at our natives section on the website as it may, or may not assist and also the natives section on the forums. Hopefully they can provide added guidance. Keep us updated, we love pictures and updates
  4. Not long now till Santa comes Who is getting themselves organised for Christmas - putting up decorations and the tree, shopping, organising treats and food for the day? Why - that would be me. Am I the only one or do others get organised early?
  5. You should be able to - click on edit at the bottom of that particular post, scroll up past your image, edit it and resubmit it. Let me know via message if you can not and I will take a look. Anyway good job - keep us updated with how they progress.
  6. They sure did Alan - some bounced back quicker than others, some didn't bounce back at all. But to be sure, life will never be the same again down there. Devrens, clear out/giving up can be for so many reasons. I am having a clear out too - because I need to make space for family returning home (house lots to be stored and because I am changing to marine. Boy do I have some stuff to move You kind of hope that anyone stopping doesn't get rid of absolutely everything because chances are one day they may return to the hobby, and it wasn't just a spur of the moment decision on a bad day.
  7. This next edition of the Aquarium World magazine has an article on anubias in it, however it will only be available to FNZAS members for up to six months. There are lots of anubias species in NZ, and a number are mis-identified. This forum is part of the wider Aquarium World website - have a look around the website. Here is the plant database link which may or maynot help you and there are articles available as well http://aquariumworld.nz/databases/1-plants/
  8. Yes they are as quiet as any others. Try searching CF1200, CF1000 as thats what they originally were called.
  9. He would most likely ship if asked. Look back through some of the posts in this area and send him a message.
  10. Excellent. I'm so pleased you got the tank set up and running well. Awesome effort You are the future of NZ Native fish keeping in NZ.
  11. Try New Pupuke Aquarium Centre in Northcote. Ron has some amazing cichlids which he has imported in the shop and he ships. They are stunning fish.
  12. I don't know of any breeders in Auckland who are active on here. JaSa who is on here, breeds beautiful quality guppies but he is not Auckland based.
  13. Not a huge amount to report. The tank has gone away for re-sealing and a tidy up and for drilling, as has the sump. The ATO is now in the cabinet. I picked up my new Hailea A-500 chiller today from Ronnie at New Pupuke Aquarium Centre. Thanks Ron Last night I collected another 18kg of Walt Smith rock, bringing the total amount I now have to around 43kg.

  15. Yes. It is not good for the fish.
  16. Ah hahaha - that didn't take long. I saw the twinkle in your eyes at the weekend. Welcome back. Keep those extra tanks, you will want them eventually.
  17. I have four young adult angelfish for sale. 1 striped, 3 black. $5 each or make an offer for the lot. Pick up only Epsom, Auckland.
  18. Do you know of anyone in Auckland who can/does build decent tanks and might do it on a regular basis? I know there is Greg, but any others. Looking at doing some list updates in the near future.

  20. Jennifer has a nice looking wooden stand bank which holds quite a number of tanks. Perhaps message her and ask her for a photo of it. What ever you do, make sure you brace it against a wall.
  21. Water? A number of people use rain water for water changes so the answer is that generally it is fine. It depends where the run off is coming from and what you store it in as to how good it ends up. Fish with special requirements as in need high or low pH may not handle it. You would need to match it to the species requirements.
  22. You can always used Daltons aquatic mix, capped off with Daltons propagating sand or another gravel. Daltons is not expensive as substrate ferts go but like all of them you do need to be careful not to disturb the mix otherwise it puts clouds into the water column for a while. It works very well and is way cheaper than flourite or aquabasis. Of course it depends on your plants but any root feeders will thrive on it. Oxygen plants - I think coldwater too.
