  1. Without seeing a photo of it I can only assume that it may be a different variety. What scientific name did you buy it as and what growing conditions are you providing for it.
  2. Really good to see you are continuing to grow this way Sometimes people try for a couple of years and give up, but hey why give up when its proving so successful. At the Auckland Fiskkeepers stand at the Pet Expo this weekend there was an aquaponics set up - I thought it was quite ingenious - using the water from the goldfish tank which ran through the tube (attached to the side of the tank stand) with the plants in it, before getting to the cannister filter, which completed the filtering and returned it to the tank. I don't think I have a clear photo of it though.
  3. Hollywood Fish Farm is looking for bearded dragons - juv - eastern or coastal and leopard geckos to sell in the store/s so just wanting to know if anyone out there is breeding them and if you are selling any at the moment. Please contact Rebecca on 09 415 4157 or email [email protected]
  4. Looks amazing. Loving the tinge of pink the dragonbloods bring to the tank colour scheme.
  5. Have a look at this link on our website http://aquariumworld.nz/databases/2-new-zealand-native/
  6. Livingart raised the Sharks from eggs he found attached to a craypot.
  7. I suspect the LED will be fine. I know the bigger Aqua One need better quality skimmers but a lot of feedback about the lights in them is that they are fine for softies and if you place corals like torch corals, bubble corals etc higher up then they are okay, but you do need to re-kit the unit out for hard corals. Looking forward to watching your progress while I sand down my cabinet and hood and await the re-fitting out of what was my discus tank.
  8. The FNZAS 2015- 2016Yearbook is available for viewing by financial members only in the Members only section of the forums on the FNZAS website - aquariumworld.nz , http://aquariumworld.nz/for…/forum/66-fnzas-members-section/ NB if you can not access this please contact your own club as they may not have sent through all the information we need in order to grant you access to this area.
  9. You could try his website. http://aquarays.co.nz/ Or he is lotofish on these forums if you want to message him.
  10. Split - why did it split? The silicone let go down the vertical left rear seam. Did we have something like a quake etc?- I don't know. I had been overseas in Africa and Europe for three months, returning to NZ for six days and then headed off to a conference in Melbourne for a week. It was on the last morning there that my phone started to go beserk. There would have been more damage but the stand cabinet has a small amount of bracing which sits around the bottom of the tank and this prevented it splitting totally. One of the top braces had fallen in to the tank so whether it let go while we were away which put more pressure on the seams I can't say but I don't remember noticing it in the one water change I did myself. The major cost was the replacement carpet and underlay which was deemed to be a health hazard with the amount of water/fish waste. The rest went in drying out the rather large lounge we had at the time. I think the main thing to remember is to make sure your insurance will cover contents including carpets, flooring etc as well as your possessions. Tanks when first purchased (custom builds) can still be drying so when you first put them on the stand they then dry to fit that particular surface. If you then move the tank and put it on another surface or turn it around you stress the glass if the two surfaces are not identical in their levels. That is why the insurance company wanted to know if it was new and wanted to see the receipts.
  11. They work fine, not sure about the regulator size required. It might be fine, I just haven't tried it. Second hand fire extinguishers, did you see if you get hold of one of those?
  12. This is an article about grass carp http://www.aquaticweedmanagement.nz/species/grass-carp/ There are certainly fish which match your description swimming in the creeks around Western Springs and some very large orange goldfish swimming in the dog pond area of Waiatarua Reserve in Remuera. My dog finds them quite fascinating.
  13. I'm not familiar with the area as that was all farmland when we lived out that way but there are certainly goldfish in a lot of public ponds and waterways and also pest catfish. What does the wetlands link into or is it self contained? For the plants take a look at our database on this same website http://aquariumworld.nz/databases/1-plants/. There is also a pest fish database where you can get a good look at the main pest catfish here. Next time I am out that way I must go have a look for myself
  14. Both. Damage to house (carpets, underlay, wall boards) 10K. Tank wasn't covered. I chucked out the heaters as wasn't prepared to test them but my filter was still working. The onus was on me to get the stereo speakers tested and if they were not proven to be ruined then I paid for the testing (this required the speaker cabinets to be ripped apart due to the construction of them) - the cost of testing was more than the cost of replacement speakers so we just purchased new ones. 400 litres on the floor. Before someone asks it was AMI and the year was 2012 - when they were reeling from the ChCh quake claims.
  15. My tank split years ago and insurance would not pay out as the tank was not purchased brand new.
  16. Colour-genes did not say it was red. They said 'like red' meaning it has the same high lighting requirements as red. Loads of growth in the wrong colour does not make a happy plant, however as most grows and then rots after a month you have done well keeping it alive for two.
  17. I dont suppose you belong to the Hawkes Bay Aquarium Society? Have a look at this site https://www.boc.co.nz/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/HelpSupportView?catalogId=3074457345616677868&langId=111&storeId=715840234&krypto=h2wllk0YI%2B8UbUbualY1UZduZX86RCJsai5d5W4CArFTcquDrrZH9M3sCQiLxK4DK33%2B5K1r34m7ST8661PPs%2FU4%2B%2Bpg9SPEEFxnLpybe4I11EPJux3PG2XwWWL66Y1o&ddkey=http%3AHelpSupportView The is BOC website and they seem to have a location near you. Most people use fire extinguishers, some sodastream bottles but I would recommend a fire extinguisher as they last longer.
  18. Yes I know the seller well. I buy quite a bit off him. Highly reliable and good back up if something should go wrong.
  19. I don't know - it appears from the description that it would. I don't purchase anything that doesn't come with a nz guarantee. Be aware that regulators - and solenoids - do wear out.
  20. To me it actually looks like the tail is missing in that photo rather than being clamped. There is also a pink area in front of the tail fin. They are sensitive to water conditions, they also like a peaceful tank which your current tank is not with clown loach and rainbow fish in it. I would move it - just match the water conditions or transfer some of the tank water over to the hospital tank. Try salt to see if that helps. To know what the right treatment is is very difficult for anyone who hasn't actually seen the fish to recommend.
  21. Last Wednesday, via Mailchimp, the President's September 2015 Newsletter was emailed out to all FNZAS Financial members. To date 58% of our members have opened the link. A number of emails bounced. If you have joined one of our Affiliated Clubs, have email, and did not receive the newsletter (check your spam), would you please let me know by message. I will get back in touch with you as if we can't get the newsletter to you then we will also not be able to get the link to our online Aquarium World magazines (next issue due out shortly). Many thanks. Adrienne Dodge FNZAS Executive
