  1. only work there, wish I owned, but I manage the pet side of things. (sorry to the mods who get annoyed with me advertising under this nick) http://www.carine.co.nz but I have an empty summer home atm.
  2. well I guess you may have to come look for your self..... make sure you let me know. when
  3. I have a very nice summer home for one if you need to re-home it, but im in TGA plus being a retail store we will have to put a price on it.
  4. heard the same joke the other way round.
  5. then definitely a commons, the longer flat head was quite noticeable. I didn't think the crans were around here
  6. then i will assume the LED's were crap I did buy them from an import store for cheap....
  7. I'll double check, but im sure it was 4.7V, 300mA. if you consider the load provided by Brand new batteries (a AA battery puts out around 1.7V, peak amp's of around 2500mA) it shouldn't have been a problem. maybe it was just a dodgy light. I have a bike torch that i'll connect up next and see what happens (I have a new soldering iron I need to break out)
  8. that sort of brightness, but more yellow, and not as much red in the fins, more on the body and all over face , plus had a flatter looking head, but the facial markings were very similar. that but with bright red and yellows. I used http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=58471 as my reference. next time your over we'll go check out that stream???
  9. oh, also a population of freshwater mussels in the Aongatete
  10. well went for a peek around the Main Road bridge of the Aongatete river after a rumour of Triops in the weeds. what a stunning little river. realised just as I pulled in that I had forgotten my camera which was a shame. Unfortunately no Triops this time round (will try a couple more times until I find them, maybe they are seasonal.) but HEAPS of freshwater shrimp and freshrun Whitebait. (most seemed to be the longer bodied inanga, bbut where too quick for me and my tiny net) Also caught 6 of the most stunning bullies I have seen, I think they were just common Bullies (due to head shape and a little bit of patterning), but they were bright reds and yellows. all were about 6-7cm long, I really want to do a decent Bully tank now. Well I'll remember the camera next time, was limited to only 25 mins of poking around due to SWMBO, but hopefully next time I will be on my own and will have time to try down by the old highway bridge, where there is heaps of over hanging plants and a couple of weed beds. also had a poke around in the creek in the Bayfair golf course, losta gambusia, a few inanga and a couple of eels, no shrimp as of yet. I think I saw a couple of bullies so will have to do a more intensive search.
  11. never needed to replace a flapper valve, anyways, the older one we had at the fish farm we just bodged with a flap of hardened leather, worked well
  12. hehehe, I tried those, the LED's lasted less than a day when wired to a phone charger that was well within the LED's specs. (4.7 V charger, the LED's had a 3x AA Battery pack) they did look cool when they did work though, and you could get that water ripple effect on the tank bottom.
  13. I'm running over 50 undergravel filtered tanks on a Pondone air pump, they do large volume low pressure pumps and ours has been running 24/7 for over 3-5 years without a single problem. (boss can't remember when they put it in) and its VERY quiet, its located in the shop without a soundproof box.
  14. most jewels will live on the water line in marina's from the research i've been doing. just stick your head over the side and have a peek around.
  15. had to make the call to come tonight or go hunting for Triops tomorrow, don't have enough gas for both. Triops will win hands down every time.
  16. sorry my bad, didn't read the 45kg part.
  17. very nice. my cat's eyes bred the other day, they have really weird eggs. have you found any jewel anemones locally yet???
  18. the scarlet badis at work are going for $14, they are on the lists so you should be able to order them (they are under the name Rainbow Badis. I would assume 3 would be ok in that tank.
  19. so was it just off the main road??? theres another pretty little stream just north of there too, ever had a poke around in there???
  20. Scarlet Badis, you could have a few in there, the males are probably the prettiest lil thing I have seen when they show off. plus a school of mosquto rasbora, and some dwarf cories..
  21. if I catch some I'll keep some for next time you come this way stella. was it the river on SH2 just before lockington road when heading away from TGA???? or was it further upstream. if it is I can drop the missus off at the winery and spend hours up there
  22. woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop im going for a trip on tuesday............ hrmmm now I need another tank..... theres a cafe?????
  23. well done, It annoys me that people like you are required. also post Found notices in the local supermarkets seems to work more times than not.
