  1. :rotf: :sml1: :rotf: :sml1: hrmmm... someone who has never dealt with a local council????????
  2. oh, so thats what oopa gangnam styles means
  3. dude what should we call our lil fishies..........
  4. +1 its real, saw a orb spider in Townsville eating a small sparrow. then again, saw a stripper eating a tarantula, so im assuming everything over there will eat nasty things
  5. what brand of egg??? might try it myself (no fry worthy atm,, but maybe soon)
  6. also do a big water change (75 % if possible without disturbing temperature) and gravel syphon under EVERY ornament, it always freaks me out how much crud hides under a rock even when I move it every 2 weeks. p.s. My nitrate poisoning case (Discus that was floating on its back, on surface for a day before I got back to work) took 3 50% water changes over 3 days to fix (BTW the discus came right after day 2, fine now.... (rookie mistake, doubling population, doubling feeding without increasing PWC's) intial NO3 reading was 40ppm, next was 40ppm, 3rd was (around )35ppm... now on a 25% daily regime until fish are healthy and NO3 down to 10ppm max, then back to 3x weekly 33% change. also if you can find funding get a sample tested professionally (or find someone locally that can do it properly (without council links sad but true), it might be a massive imbalance in the water chemistry)
  7. turkey basters have other uses as well, never try buying one if your a single looking 30 year old
  8. trying to convince the missus to take on an elderly cat, better than taking a kitten we may have to rehome in about 3 years
  9. I did not know that they could hatch in FW.... well you learn something new every day unless you have very hard water....
  10. also once it has cleared wash out the wool parts as they can clog quite quickly with that sort of thing
  11. let the live eels bite them, lots!!!!!! (or you could go for a bitey version of the german thing.........)
  12. thats cuz your not a REAL pirate
  13. +1, your nitrate reading should be higher, all signs are saying a high nitrate reading. hate to sound like a salesperson but get an Aquaone nitrate test, I have had trouble getting readings with both the API and JBL kits before, but the A1 ones are not as accurate, but give a fair idea. seriously though, where are yopu located???, im sure a heap of people here would come and help you rather than lose a person from this hobby (it has to be the most social, anti-social hobby I have ever had. btw do not add any more fish until you have found the problem. if it is high nitrates (personally had to deal with this recently  ) then adding fish may make the problem worse. p.s. if you are in TGA i'll personally come round and help
  14. if your sure it isn't bacterial try a flocculant like Aquaclear. just a small note though, flocculants lose their effectiveness if they are overdosed.. I always gravel syphon while im doing an initial fill, it gets rid of all that stuff....
  15. like my advice, "treat all your fish like 13yr old boys" works well, especially when thinking about adding a female (also works when explaining why fish are fighting over a certain rock
  16. look every where, take a spotlight and report so we can all know where they are, not so we can take but so we know whats there, people like Stella are really keen for data like that. When I was 8 I found a random population of giant kokopu (unfortunately extinct now big thank you to DOC) fortunately due to this discovery they got funded for several sampling excursions, and now most streams in that area have reasonable data available on them
  17. sounds complicated isn't ... reworded into leyman..... large amount of rotting fruit... container that they can't escape from. sorted..... 99% of the time ppl are asking how to get rid of them, forget the fact they are wingless and treat them like regular fruit flys you don't want to discriminate do you????
  18. yes but unless it's man made, its unlikely to stay constantly at that level, hence the possible requirement to dive
  19. doing well atm, must say thanks to locals for support !!!!
  20. best to go hang your head around the edge of a marina, its a floating pontoon, allowing you access to creatures that normally do not occur at that level
  21. never tried one of those, just the standard ones, I haven't had much experience with the plant thing yet, still just learning. have a 400L tank that I might be able to play with soon..... (still under half high tech attitude atm, need to make more $$$ out of fishroom then boss might be interested.)
  22. java fern takes 1 yr to grow????? I have 3 big ones and can almost supply my store with saleable size ones anubias though are slow... but crypts, ambulia, Val, etc.... especially if you set up a aquaponics setup before you go for the full planted setup.
