  2. hrmmmm..... sorry seems like they might not be allowed..... anyone know if any of the allowable species will do ok??? wow, seriously, MPI seriously needs to do its job better
  3. seriouslyfish.com is usually very good.... http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/mastacembelus-ellipsifer/ http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/a_elipsifer.php http://diszhal.info/english/other/en_Aethiomastacembelus_ellipsifer.php just google it, you'll find heaps... i'll just check if its on the allowable list, but im sure ive seen these around before
  4. awwwwwwwwwwwww.... I would sooooooo adopt pepper if I could sneak it past my land lord. hrmmm...... i'll pm you later
  5. I would avoid the kuhli loaches as they will probably end up as spaghetti for the cichlids, plus they really do prefer neutral to acid water. also clowns being naked (tiny - no scale) fish can have trouble in african tanks with their tendancy to "taste" their tank mates. I would stick with bristlenose (tough lil buggers) or if you are doing more peaceful africans you may consider a Tanganyikan eel (may be hard to find though)
  6. $2000 substrate and plants???? that seems a bit high????
  7. http://blogs.discovery.com/animal_news/2012/05/52-hertz-the-loneliest-whale-in-the-world.html now thats depressing......
  8. +1 although imo you should do reduced ferts until the plants start to take off, just to prevent feeding the algae. might just add here, is there any good articles on Iron dosing???? I stopped dosing Flourish Iron and my algae started growing heaps, and my plants stopped..... started again today, already noticed new growth on the ambulia. (only 6 hours after)
  9. ummmmm.... eels are not endangered nor protected...... although the longfin population is in decline
  10. they tend to hide around areas of brown gunky algae, but if you find them they make big carpeting areas. the area MF4L and I found ours has heaps of different colours in a small area. mine are doing well (had a new one split off yesterday and another small one looks like it will divide soon) on a diet of crushed flake food (don't ask but my gobies go mental on it) minced tuatua and crushed pond snails (from my breeding tank, another fav of the gobies) at least once a week i direct feed them but most of the time I let them take what they catch.
  11. my money is on deformed looking midas probably will lose the hump, grow a second head and enjoy Nikki Minaj give us some pics in a few weeks!!!! Hybrids interest me p.s. they will probably take more of the pure Midas look as it is one of the ancestors of the parrot
  12. what sort of weight are they rated for???
  13. :an!gry :an!gry :an!gry :an!gry why would you????, especially when if you wanted to catch eels you could do so in just about any other creek.
  14. sounds like a stone in the belly. damn that was quick!!! unfortunately by the sounds of it it may have perforated the belly if it was a stone (the way it seemed to move) are you going to do an Autopsy???
  15. ever seen a hand vacume???? its a bit of pipe, you put your hand over one end and push it down into the bottom of the tank, release the hand and it sucks out everything, put your hand back on and whip it out, only pulling up a little bit of water, you could probably design a cone or something to trap the debris in as well if you wanted.
  16. keep an eye on them, some may be a light brown with dark red eyes
  17. I've always called them tomato anemones... told ya there was heaps there, what colours did you get???
  18. seriously though do some study while you can, as you get older you find its a lot harder to do

    water change

start by increasing water changes to once every week (easiest to start a schedule.) around 25% should be ok. also are you cleaning your Filter??? and what kind of filter do you have?
  20. go have a close look, I was absolutely stunned by what was hiding in plain site in areas I always considered "Brown" even the mudflats have stunners if you look side on, remember most creatures are camoflaged from their main predators which come from above or below, not often side on, which they use for mating displays (even Neon tetra's are dark on top, light below)
  21. strangely enough it makes the convict feel better by allowing it to kill and savage something else..... Rule #1: treat your fish as 14yr old teenagers, they seem to have the same mentality.
