  1. Honestly, that's the sole reason why myself and many of my friends rarely post here any longer. It definitely has that "old boys club" feel to it, and other fish forums are far more welcoming.
  2. "Wayde says, “We make sure any of the fish that we’re going to get are eating and are in good shape and condition. Reality TV is reality TV; most of the time everything looks like it’s done overnight. We don’t want people to think that it’s being done overnight—people need to understand that all the builds and everything that we do, they don’t happen instantaneously; it takes time. We do whatever we can to ensure the proper environment for the fish, whether it be food, feeding, so forth and so on.”" Seems to me like a whole lot of people don't quite understand that watching fish acclimate isn't entertaining enough for a reality tv series. If everyone bothered to do their own research on the show, you'd find that they actually do get their clients to employ a fishkeeper for maintenance. Now, if their client so choses not to....... that's hardly their fault is it? I mean hell, you don't go blaming HFF when someone new arrives here asking why their 20 incompatible fish died in the first week.....do you ? I mean, that's the customers responsibility to research right? ...
  3. Hi, I have used sand from multiple beaches around Auckland in a few different tanks and never had any issues. The only real thing you need to do is wash it off and pick out all the bits of seaweed and other plant matter so it doesn't rot. Easiest way I've found to do this is run it through a sieve . I've been told in the past that you have to pull all the bits of shell out because it will affect the PH of the tank, but I've never bothered personally and my PH tests have always been where I want them but that's up to you  cheers
  4. Nah , you'll be fine up there, most of the gear there is direct microwave links - unless you climb the tower and stand directly in the path you'll be ok . If you do tho, you'll probably start cooking from the inside out fairly quickly . I work for Infratel, a rigging company - we subcontract to vodafone, telecom, 2degrees and so on to install and maintain those dishes on the tower. You can blame transpower for the gates haha
  5. Jack , is this by chance located up the top of the hill where the drury telecommunications tower is ? those photos look awful familiar, I'm up there quite often for work.
  6. Straight from hose, no conditioner , no worries. :f77:
  7. he bought the 2nd tank to house the destructive fish , while replanting his 1400 litre tank , which still houses his non destructive fish.
  8. You can also buy LED strips from Trademe for very cheap, which will help . But I would definitely look at replacing the bulb first, and see if that makes any difference
  9. Like I said, never had any issues from using one . Have been for 2 years now. You can be paranoid if you like, but it hasn't done anything to any of my fish and I have 3 tanks in the living room where the spray is located. the mortein one I bought has no warnings about fish or any other pets. :nilly:
  10. It does one little piddly spray every 12 or 24 hours.
  11. I use them with no issues. Now, spraying fly spray directly into your tank, that's another thing altogether.
  12. I know someone who has successfully kept a betta in one of those for the last 6 months with minimal water changes.
  13. I flea bombed with a towel covering the tank, and air pumps turned off- no problems
  14. We can't let the above posts distract us from the fact that this country is still, the best place to live and bring up a family .
