  6. +1, may not be 100% accurate, but should give you a fair idea. chances are its still perfectly fine though
  7. yeah thought so, how big are the young???, would 3mm mesh be big enough to save a few???
  8. just wondering if there are any special consideration I need to know about for keeping halfbeaks (Nomorhamphus ebrardtii) got the diet, water params and am still getting varied ideas on temps (some say don't let it drop below 24 degrees, some say don't let it rise above 25 degrees) also might be having a shot at breeding, any tips for me???
  9. I find the easiest way is to brag to my mates that I can run non stop around the mount (3.5Kms) then I have no choice but to do it, without that sort of motivation I walk half of it never brag unless you can back it up :sage: :sage:
  10. ahhhh, I know the pain, what about those removable hooks and some string????
  11. get a pvc downpipe holder the right size and screw it onto the wall, bottle sits fine, use two if you have cats or small children
  12. its to make sure the infection is fully gone, and to prevent sending it out to a customer. have always done this in my own tanks as well, nothing worse than treating then 2 weeks later having to re-treat
  13. Applied for the Environmental management course finally (decided rather be poor and studying than poor and not moving ahead) so im gonna have to up my fitness a bit,
  14. what??? add an 18 yr old female into a group of 13yr old boys???
  15. I didn't take any, was just there collecting water. the first was a proper garden of them, had a few cool tube worms (one that i make dissapear a few times) last down ramp where i crosses the first sidewalk stick your head over the north western corner of the X
  16. +1, I use wundertonic or whitespot treatment., heat up to 30 degrees. also I prefer to keep up treatment for 2 weeks after I see the last spot. don't forget that with some fish you may need to increase feeding due to the increased metabolism as well
  17. thats a new one on me...., any way you could get a hold of a microscope????
  18. sounds like experience Ira..... do tell.... found a couple of massive colonies of Jewels today, spent so much time watching them and all the other critters that the missus took off and I had to walk home . sooooo worth it
  19. find a leather worker and ask them to stitch a leather sole to your wading booties, you'll look strange but it won't wear out quickly
  20. it seems a shame to waste such an educational experience on that sort of person too....
  21. just noticed the other day that there is a "Pseudotropheus zebra" in Axelrod's mini atlas that looks decidedly neon green
  22. I find when you get dodgy pH results, check the test tube first. it only takes a miniscule amount of contaminant to make your results vary quite a bit. also a large number of the reagents used in other tests are extremely acid or alkaline (I cant remember what test it was but one of our old ones was almost pure phosphoric acid, strong enough to burn your skin)
  23. no, peacock, hap and mbuna are common terms for cichlids of Lake Malawi, Maylandia, Aulanocara,Copadichromis, Cyrtocara, Placidochromis, Protomelas, Otopharynx, Nyassachromis, and Sciaenochromis are genus names. (strangely enough although some called "Hap's" there are no true Haplochromis species in Malawi due to taxonomic revisions.) oh and you Pemba's are Tanganyikan, the Brown haps are from Victoria. heres a couple of good reads. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/peacocks.php http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/cichlid/haplochromis.php
  24. I think you are talking about species name not genus... Aulanocara (Genus) stuartgranti(species (also no capitals for species names) "Map Albino" (variant) or uf a unknown hybrid it should be Aulanocara sp.
