  1. So after thinking about it for awhile, I've decided to give africans another go (I had my first attempt last year but a few months in something went through my tank and wiped out all my stock within a week) now that I have much more fishy experience. It's only on a small scale (in my AR850 - 165L) so my plan on stocking is just electric yellows (hopefully a small breeding colony) and possibly some dems to add more colour  Note: I do have an external running on the tank aswell as the built in one. Also will no doubt upgrade the tank within a year as I'm prone to doing  I spent around 8 hours yesterday emptying out my tank after having sold off all the fish in it, and converting it into the below. I decided to do it properly this time so spent the money getting some nice background paint, coral sand, big rocks and some dead coral rock. I've ordered in some marine lighting tubes aswell to give it a different look. Today I picked up my new little featherfin syno from work (she? I think, is about 10cm and oh so cute!). The tank looks much better after settling overnight so I will take some more pics this evening Advice welcome!! Here's what it looked like last night while it was still clearing up:
  2. Yeap, will be dwarf puffers. Pretty sure ours lists them as that also. They're neat little guys! I wouldn't mind setting up a little tank for them myself
  3. Man I'm lucky that my boyfriend is just as fish obsessed as I am :sml1:
  4. Yay! :happy2: You're very welcome! I'm just glad he's going to be well loved after such a rough start in life. Love his new name!! My brother dubed him Thumper while he was recooping here but he was in desperate need of a more creative name
  5. I brought some bloodworms for mine as a treat but they hated them  My angels in another tank were happy though
  6. Will update today after a good clean
  7. A blue handreared. Fell in love with her at work and ended up buying her Will post a photo at some point.
  8. Got my first tattoo today :happy2: Also brought a baby Ringneck yesterday
  9. I'm so glad I'm not the only one to forget!! :nilly: No more losses over night so all seems to be well again. Stocked up on prime today and poored a few mls in for good measure
  10. No more losses at least  I made sure the pH and temp was exactly the same - just completely forgot about adding prime
  11. Not that I know of - much be just really high levels of chlorine today
  12. I am SUCH an idiot!! I've been battling some black beard algae for about a month now. Finally got fed up with it and just took out about 70% water from my 160L tank to give it a good scrub and re-plant it. Got it looking super clean and I was so pleased with the layout that I filled it up again without paying much attention. Went to have dinner and came back to a bunch of dead tetras and a dead dwarf chain loach &c:ry I completely forgot to add my prime!! I added some as soon as I realised and am now waiting to see if my other fish make it :tears:
  13. Malnourishment often causes eye problems - but you'll want to get him checked out for cat flu, feline HIV etc also. Poor kitty &c:ry
  14. I love your tiny tanks and tiny fish  Love the blue background too! I'm gonna get one for my tank - definately makes everything stand out more!
  15. Add an API Bio Chem Zorb to your filter - I swear by them, water will be clear overnight
  16. Went to work today and someone has bought him
  17. I'm not sure about frogs, but the young aro at work loooves live locusts
  18. I'm thinking I may actually sell this particular tank now - I just dont have the time to upkeep it :-? Plus I like my african cichlid tank way more
  19. Over the last couple of months, my tank that sits in the lounge has gone to s***! I don't have time to take care of the plants, gravel etc so it's just a big, dirty, overgrown, rotting mess. I've tried fixing it up a few times but I'm just not happy with it. I'm thinking of emptying the whole thing out and doing a really simple hardscape - like no gravel, just some driftwood and a back ground simple. The plan is something along the lines of the tank below, but with a blue background. Where would I find wood like this? I'm guessing its not something you can just pick up at the store? :dunno:
  20. I'm interested to find this out too. We have some at work which I'd love to bring home!
  21. Ahhh go All Blacks!!!! :happy1: I don't even like rugby and I'm getting into it! :spop:
  22. Agree with above. Very interesting Jennifer! :smln:
  23. 10: Floor, roof, walls, nest box. 11: Easy to clean pull out floor, waterproof easy access roof, walls with lots of doors, nest box (dark and warm), eating area with built in hay rack and shelf for food and water bowls, two stories with ladder? :happy2:
