  1. Like I say, the list is not permanent. This is the first time I've been able to keep these types of fish so the plan is too see who I like, who gets along, and go from there. A few are just random fish that have been surrendered at work also - once everything grows a wee bit they'll be rehomed. I'm too impatient to wait for them all to grow to have a full tank  It's been a really interesting experiment so far though growing them all out together - so far no issues but so fun to watch them all interact! Couch now faces the tank as opposed to the TV!
  2. I figure I may as well finally start this thread, it's been a long time in the making. About a month ago my 750L tank (180x60x70cm) finally arrived! It's now set up and slowly being filled with juvie cichlids etc. :happy1: I've kept the look very basic, brightwater gravel, driftwood (still a couple of floaters waiting to sink) and a couple of fake plants for cover. Heater is a 300W Jager. I have 2 x twin bulb Ocean 6ft light hoods and filter is an Aqua One Nautilus 2700 and a Aquius 1020 (which will be replaced with a second Nautilus in a couple of months.) Current stocking as I say is just babies, as they grow I plan on either a) Upgrading to a bigger tank :nilly: b) Upgrading to more large tanks (probably more viable so I can split up the ones that aren't compatible as they reach maturity) or c) Selling them on and keep my favs (Doubtful I'll ever have the heart to do this haha) So far stocking is as follows (a portion of these are currently in grow out tanks for easy heavy feeding/waterchanges) Red Tiger Oscar 6x Surinamensis Golden Severum Green Severum Midas/Flowerhorn type fish Texas Black Ghost Knife Choc Ghost Khife Fire Eel Royal Plec Senegalis Bichir Convict Red Parrot Silver Shark Rainbow Shark Golden Rainbow Shark Borneo Tiger Electric Blue Jack Dempsey Green Terror Golden Algae eater Jap. Algae eater Featherfin Syno Pictus I think that's it so far  I havn't yet got my head around how to take a decent photo of such a large tank so this will have to do for now:
  3. All look like males to me also. Very pretty colours!!
  4. That's what I thought also, saw what I think were females at HFF and they're nowhere near as pretty as the boys, but maybe they were a different type?
  5. I see similar injuries in these guys at work - particularly the swollen mouths from lip-locking as was said - make sure you keep a close eye that they don't get infected
  6. If you get stuck then the SPCA do a really good job of rehoming bunnies Once they're in the adoption modules they stay as long as they need to find a home - also get desexed and vaccinated and spoilt while they're there haha
  7. I thought I read in the Q&A that he didn't actually know the parents? Sad looking wee fish for such a huge price tag - even the re-listed price is very deep for a first time cross. I just picked up a Green Texas (or wannabe green texas as the case may be) today from Wonderworld in Rotorua and am pretty impressed with the colour/pattern considering its only 4cm odd
  8. Haha kinda an ironic name I know  He's named Toothless because of his resemblance to the 'Night Shade' Dragon in the movie How to Train your Dragon :happy2: This guy is actually the second 'Toothless.' The first I sadly gave up thinking I would be shutting down my tank - now that I'm upgrading to a proper monster tank I needed a new one
  9. Figure I may aswell add my lot to this thread haha I've got: Severus the Severum Danny the Datnoid Heather the Featherfin catfish Toothless the Ghostknife Moose the Choc ghostknife Randy the Royal plec Frank the Festivum Johnny Depp the Blue Jack Dempsey
  10. Oh, my bad! The article made it sound like they were threatened longfin eels. Typical of news articles I guess :nilly:
  11. Aww RIP Oddballs are particularly easy to get attached to
  12. I swear my severum gets depressed sometimes Maybe it's because he's called Severus..
  13. Poor things!! :tears: Why would you pick on a tame animal like that? Hope they get punished for both burglary and slaughtering an endangered/protected species!
  14. Fancy seeing you here! :happy2:
  15. http://www.seek.co.nz/Job/sales-assista ... e/23475074 There's a few people on here including myself who work at Animates, nice place to work and they're usually keen to take on young people with no experience. Good luck
  16. !drool: What an awesome piece!!! Man I wish I knew someone with a property I could pinch some from!
  17. I have a wee rescue boy up for adoption in a weeks time.. Cute as hell and a real character
  18. So many factors :nilly: Gonna need to start my monster tank thread soon!!!
  19. Does anyone know if the Aqua One Nautilus 2700L/H is any good? :dunno:
  20. Frontline spray can be used on anything from 4 weeks no matter the weight. I use it on my stray foster babies that come in with fleas. Does the trick almost instantly! If you've only just seen the fleas then I wouldn't bother treating the house - it's usually only needed in serious infestations :smln: Beautiful wee pup btw!
  21. This was my mantra when planning my first monster tank :happy2: So excited! I'd go as big as you can comfortably afford. It would suck to have it all set up and realise you really did want that extra room.
  22. !drool: If my 650L looks anywhere near that good when it's set up then I'll be very happy!!
  23. Would dwarf rainbow fish work? They'd be lovely! :spop:
