Yes that is how your old marine tank is and what I based above design on. The whole end of the tank is an overflow and water runs into the box through the comb without making any noise and then down the two drains also without noise.
To me this is the best overflow possible. Super silent, easy to control and doesn't take up any precious floor space.
Yeah from the graph.. could be wrong but it sure seems like a lot of water :dnc1:
Easy! Just do an overflow like David described above or like the one I have shown.. super silent.. but you need two drains, one adjustable for full syphon, one for the rest (like david said)
Exposed coast will always be better but I'm sure Clark's beach just before high tide on a clear water day is fine. I get water from takapuna which I'm sure is worse than Clark's beach and fishes seem happy.
David the marine tank you sold me has 25mm drain and can under full syphon drain much more than my 5000L/hr pump can deliver (around 4000L/hr at 1m height).
So I reckon a straight piece of 25mm pipe of 1m length can drain up to 6000L/hr (1500gph?)
Agree 25mm is too small for the tank Henward is planning. I would go 32mm. Hansen all the way baby full on BeanAnimal style yeah!
Don't think it's a problem.. but of course a nice clean surface is always good..
You would have to build a box around the pipes so water flows over and into the box before taken out = surface skimmed!
Yeah tank going well.
Went through a bad cyano outbreak but I let I grow until it stopped spreading, cleaned up the tank and all is nice and clean again.
Got a few new inhabitants from coromandel and spirits bay up north (6hr drive back) including a little cool hiwihiwi and a nice starfish. Caught a few octopussies as well that were very cool but I let them be. Amazing how many things are right under our feet in rock pools. One just need to look a bit closer.
Will see if I can get a few good shots next few days.
I get mine here:
http://www.bits4farms.co.nz
They arrive almost instantly but they aint cheap.
I just find that if I go to mega 10 or whatever they never have all the bits I need.
I hope they throw the book at this guy and make an example out of this case by either giving him some jail time or a huge fine. Acts like these should be punished severely IMO.
Yeah I guess a few guppy fry couldn't hurt. Easy enough to do water changes on a tank that size :sml1:
I would change a cup a day with same temp conditioned water
Good on ya!
People tend to go WAAAYY overkill when building their own stand and so when they see one that is not overkill they think it will break..
If you look at a stand for a Juwel Rio 400 tank. That's a potential 500kg on top of a few pieces of particle board put together in the right way.
Why not coral rubble? (stuff people use for SW tanks)
Pieces are big enough for water to pass through and it's super porous so you can use it as a media and it would serve as bio media as well as contribute to hardness/pH.
You can buy bags of it at HFF. You pay pr kg.
Wow, this reasoning reminds me of the Monty python bit where the village concludes that a woman is a witch because she weighs the same as a duck, a duck floats, wood also floats, wood can burn so the woman must be a witch.
I used to fish for Rudd, carp, perch, etc. back in Denmark (where they belong). It was great fun and I actually really like these fish but of course I agree that they should remain in their native habitat which does not include NZ waters.
I am quite sure that a species like Rudd can spread from one water to another by eggs sticking to e.g. Ducks feet. I can say for sure that back in Denmark if you dug a hole and put some water in it it wouldn't be long before you had Rudd in there and it certainly was not because someone had released them.
Just thought I would add this before we go out and lynch all the coarse fishing enthusiasts (for the record I don't fish for coarse fish in NZ)
I snorkled in spring and down the stream back in 2000 when it was still allowed.. it was really cool (and cold).. lots of freshwater crayfish (forgot maori name) and trout (from fish farm nearby I guess)
Big swiss lady asked if she could borrow my spring wetsuit. I was polite and said yes thinking she will realize it wont fit her. I was wrong... not sure how but she managed to squeeze into it and since then have been too big for me.. Lesson learned: Don't lend your wetsuit to a large swiss lady!
Yeah I am curious about this too..
And if they are wild looking ones you could sell 5 to me if you want... but we are not really allowed to plan these sort of things on this forum so email me if you want to talk about this.
