I have both. Ingredients, guaranteed analysis (fat, protein, etc.) and vitamins are 100% the same on the two kinds.

I would just rinse the bio media well in tank water. Do a 50% water change and start filter again. Then watch ammonia and do water changes as necessary for a week or so. There will still be some live bacteria in your media will not require new full cycle. I wouldn't use any additives

I wouldn't worry about the stand at all.. It is well built and braced and as you say if Auckland even have a quake it will most likely be a teeny tiny one.

That is with cabinet. I bought without cabinet for 13 something.. Nice tank but yes you could spend that money on an entire custom system. Sorry a bit :smot:

I have syphoned out substrate several times with fish still in tank. Then added new sand substrate by rinsing it very well first, put in bucket and lower entire bucket into tank and then slowly tip out content onto bottom (entirely submerged) and then gently spread over bottom. Gets a bit murky but mature filter will deal with that in a few days

I have replaced the black plastic rings in the two lower baskets with sintered glass noodles from trade me. Personally I think they work better. Yes this is normally a good idea but with a sand substrate you might end up slowly shifting the sand into pretty little sand dunes and areas with bare bottom.

I would just rinse new media in "goodness" from old media and use both in your cf1200 and only run that... Like you said really.

It's not exactly rocket science... people from colder parts of the world have know about this for thousands of years :smln:

doesn't work that way.. You can insulate to your hearts desire in all the walls but if you have a small draft it could spoil it all..

I can only comment on the juwel tank. Haven't had an aqua one. Build quality is very good and goes well as a show tank in your living room. I don't like the filter in the corner so have removed it and now using canisters instead, much better. The light is slightly dumb too because you can't turn one tube off and only run one and if you take out a tube the other wont work. Finally I don't like their heater either. Mine failed and cooked my fish therefore I will never use a juwel heater again. Having said all that I really like the tank itself because of the quality and the look

I hate to be a killjoy here but if you take 150mm batts and squeeze them into a 90mm gap (depth of timber framing) you will not only reduce the insulating ability from 150mm to 90mm it will in fact be worse because the product is squashed and so can't hold as much air as it should. It would have been better to use 90mm thick batts. No doubt it will be nice and warm anyway but just wanna let you know what's going on.

R3.5 batts are at least 180mm thick so your walls must be around 200mm thick now then
