  1. Hi Caleb. We have a few 14 year olds in here. Welcome.
  2. No, no, that was sweets for my sweet, sugar for my honey
  3. WALNUT BRITTLE 2 cups (440g) sugar ¼ tsp cream of tartar ½ C (125ml) water 2 Tbs golden syrup 60g butter, chopped 1½ C walnuts ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda 150g dark chocolate Line baking tray with non-stick baking paper. Combine sugar, cream of tartar & water in medium saucepan. Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Brush down sides of pan with pastry brush dipped in water to dissolve any sugar crystals stuck on the side of the pan. Bring to boil & boil, uncovered, for about 10 minutes or until mixture turns golden brown & reaches 150°C on sugar thermometer. This is called the hard crack stage. Remove pan from heat. Stir in golden syrup & butter. Return to heat & boil for a further minute. Remove pan & add combined nuts & soda; stir until well combined. Pour into lined baking tray; cool 10 minutes. Mark into small squares; cool completely. Break into pieces along lines once cool. Melt chocolate. Dip brittle pieces into chocolate & allow to set on sheet of baking paper. Transfer finished brittle to airtight container with baking paper between layers. The rest are out of the good old Edmonds Cookbook. Am about to take some gingerbread loaves out of the oven. It smells lovely here! !drool:
  4. Cold wet day here so I made sweets for my mum's fund raiser stall... Top lot is chocolate (or plain on the right) walnut brittle. In the centre is hokey pokey and the bottom is fidge

  6. I do not waste time on the internet, everything I do on it is useful. :dnc1: I come in here as often as possible merely to moderate, and also mod on one other site. I use Google to check references or look up information. I find recipes. I occasionally get sidetracked in Youtube while looking for something else. I look at lolcats every now and then. I check Facebook to see what my kids are up to and it is the easiest way to communicate with my daughter. I buy, or download free, ebooks and check The Book Depository and Fishpond. Occasionally look at Amazon for stuff other than books. Skype a couple of friends almost daily. Don't play games. Don't buy from Trademe much these days (often cheaper to buy new from overseas)
  7. Long time no see Frenchy. Welcome back!
  8. In the past, many have always said the water there was not suitable for aquariums and many would get their water from a tap at Wet Pets. Something to do with high levels of something in the supply. Can't remember what though and if it is still applicable. :dunno:
  9. One of my daughter's cats seemed to develop an allergy and skin problem. They tried all sorts of diets and potions until she realised it was a particular brand of flea treatment she had been using. Problem solved. Hopefully your dog will improve in the new environment. If you do as well then it is a double bonus.
  10. I am getting used to the new Photobucket. Has some good and bad points but I pay a small amount for a premium account so get unlimited pics and no advertising. I can drag and drop, make albums, upload multiple pics, and it only takes 3 clicks to upload. It also gives me all the urls and says which is which. We are just old and don't like change :-?
  11. My husband can probably find local wetas, he has brought home old skins that have been shed so I assume he could catch something still in its skin. I will try and remember to ask. That is a cool looking weta! I didn't know we had such colourful species here. newbiefishcpl they are beautiful. I actually like the colours and patterns on cockroaches too.
  12. He is 13. Don't worry about it, she will be fine. She may decide it is too cold at this time of year and reabsorb, or expel, the eggs. She may also stay nice and fat for months.
  13. If it is temporary, you have a lot of plants and plenty of filtration they should cope. Goldfish are very messy eaters and produce a lot of waste. Regular water changes will be a must.
  14. I could not tell from the video but if a fish is ill it can over-produce the slime coat so appear odd. Constipation could account for the swelling so perhaps it is unwell due to constipation?
  15. Dropsy has a distinct pine cone look

    The What's Up? thread.

We have had a generator stored here. It was needed at one of their sites but one of the wheels has a problem and it is not road worthy so unable to be towed anywhere. To get it out, they hiab'd it out then flew it to the site by helicopter. It came back today so I took pics of them getting it back in place (until it can be fixed). It is amazing how far out those arms can go! The truck can't get up much further due to a bend in the driveway (we are up a back section)
  17. Possibly but it was meant as a joke and if people go off on religious tangents I will have to remove it and send myself a warning. :tears:
  18. The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Royal Commission for Political correctness announced today that the climate in the UK should no longer be referred to as English weather. Rather than offend a sizeable portion of the UK population, it will now be referred to as: “Muslim Weather” - (partly Sunni, but mostly Shi’ite)
  19. You won't have any idea what it was without a thorough dissection - which is unlikely. It could be any number of things, including one of them being whacked a little hard with the net when being caught, or being injured in some way during the process of catching, bagging, transporting.
  20. A quicker way is to pour a bit of vinegar on the rock. If it fizzes, don't use it, unless you want the pH to go up.
  21. A very poorly arranged room. That sofa should be right in front of the tank, not beside it
  22. Blackouts work for cyanobacter, not green water.
  23. I bet that's what the people of Christchurch used to say!
  24. Just because you got eggs does not mean you have a pair. Females do not need a male to produce eggs.
