The tank will not cycle just by letting it sit empty a few days. You need a food source (fish waste for a fish-in cycle, or pure ammonia if you do a fishless cycle) for the bacteria to feed on and grow. IMO there is nothing cruel about using fish to cycle if you use a few and go slowly. 6 danios in there for a month would do it. Then add more fish slowly over time. What other fish, apart from angels, did you have in mind?

In between reading a good book (or e-reader if you want to get technical) I have started it! I don't usually do ones like this as I prefer funny cartoon ones but this was going cheap in The Red Shed and I bought it on a whim. Which reminds me... And before anyone suggests it, I have no desire to try the clownfish puzzle from Royce Art!!!

It will get covered in algae faster than glass and be harder to clean off, if you want to remove the algae. -
A big group of rummy noses looks great, as do harlequins (although not a tetra).

Airstones look pretty but don't do a lot, unless you are medicating and then they can help agitate the surface to help with oxygen levels.

I have plain sunlight bulbs in my tank and have never managed to grow ambulia. I always assumed it was my lighting as I understood ambulia liked a fair amount of it. As said, turn the lights on for longer - 8 hour minimum, unless the tank is in a high light area from natural light. And the other suggestions Adrienne gave.

Quite frankly, pics do not do this tank justice. Having seen it "in the flesh" I can attest that it is even more spectacular when you are in front of it

In many forums a moderator only moderates selected sections, whereas a global moderator can moderate in all sections. Not very exciting eh? :dunno:
