Brad I don't have my address on my licence. BUT... I did have an envelope with my address on it as I had a letter and book in the bag ready to post to a friend and the envelope had her address on the back of it. Obviously the thieves didn't think long and hard as they discarded the keys very quickly before realising they had access to my house, work and vehicles! I had rung my neighbour and asked her to keep an eye out on my place (there are just 2 of us up a back section) Apart from getting the keys back, nothing else has turned up. I spent some time searching rubbish bins around the area but no luck. I also have park staff and council cleaning crews keeping an eye out for the bag but it has rained steadily all weekend so not much use to me if they do get the rest back I was concerned they might have had other keys cut then dropped the others to give me a false sense of security then a couple of weeks later hit the house but my daughter reckons I am crediting them with too much intelligence to do that! Besides, there were quite a few keys so it would cost them a lot to have spares cut! It cost me $6.50 to replace the work key (before the originals were handed in)

Fingers crossed they can help her.

Yeah, give his little tortured insides a rest  Just saw a programme on TV where they had a fancy goldfish that permanently swam upside down so they surgically attached a cork on a string to his back to keep him upright!

I have had the Jebo 2 yrs now. Very quiet. I have to put my hand on it to feel the slight vibration so check it is running. I have only cleaned it twice and that was easy. I have used Fluval 404s but hate pulling them to bits for cleaning as it usually took 2 of us to pull them apart. Also buggers to start again. They also had a tendency to block easily so required regular maintenance every month or so as the water flow dropped dramatically.

I doubt we have any.

$220? I thought I had bought mine on special for $150 but that was a couple of years ago. I think most people like their AquaOne filters. I have mine on a 250L tank and it works well. The tank is heavily planted with reasonable to low stocking of smaller shoaling fish. The largest being the pearl gouramis and hoplos. MarkLB is right - no such thing as too much filtering, unless the fish are getting exhausted swimming against the current! In which case, turn the spray bar towards the glass. The 819 would suit your tank perfectly. I don't know how its price compares to the filter you are considering though.

Sounds like he might have been a bit constipated since after the pea you noted more poo

I love my Jebo 819

Dried blood is good too if you know a source Another alternative is dried sheep poo. I know some people use grass clippings. I never fed mine in a bath outside. They just grew by themselves. I occasionally threw in some dried yeast but didn't notice much difference in numbers. I seem to remember someone suggesting baby food worked well - especially one with kumara in it. I bought some but never got around to trying it.

That is a male in the pic. Females are not as brightly coloured and have a round tail shape

We have never had a planned power cut last longer than originally stated. Most have been quite a bit shorter!

Commonly found in lfs in NZ. A beautiful fish.

Not at the moment but if I toss mine out into the pond over summer again I will have hundreds in the new year

Our driver licences are made of a plastic material and are the size of a credit card, but not as thick. They are quite bendable. The Sex Expo is held yearly, I think, in the main cities. It is just a get-together for all the sex related industries to show their products - some of which, I must admit, I had no idea what they were for!! It was fun people watching

The "stick thing" is called the gonopodium 3 males and 2 females is not good. You need 2 or more females for every male or the females will eventually be harassed to death. As to the spasms of your male, it is not breeding behaviour. Sounds like a neurological problem to me (perhaps he got knocked on the head at some point?).

I was at a club meeting last night talking to a couple who have been having trouble with their bore water as the drought meant a higher concentration of minerals and stuff were in the water and it killed their neons.

I wonder if the cloudiness is a result of you replacing all the filter pads and creating a minor bacterial bloom which, hopefully, should clear as the bacteria count goes back up. That filter ought to do the job. What fish do you have in the tank? If the tank is well planted and not heavily stocked it should clear. The green will be the excess light but not sure what to suggest if you can't move the tank. Are you able to cover any of the sides or top cut back the light? I get the green spots on the front glass in winter as early morning lower sun gets directly on the glass for a couple of hours each day. They are very hard to get off! Many suggest an old credit card works best.

Mahurangi do it and I think they are done via correspondence or through the Nelson/Marlborough Institute of Technology. The certificate is the Certificate in Companion Animal Services and has a number of specific options including "aquatics" and "advanced aquatics". A number of people here have done, or are doing, it. Contact Dave Cooper at the Mahurangi Institute or ring 0800PETQUALS (0800 738 78257) or [email protected]. Members of FNZAS affiliated societies were offered full scholarships for all except the advanced aquatics module. (Not sure if this offer is still open)

A simple box filter works well. Keep the lid off a bit so the fry can swim in and out of it. Fill with filter wool and a couple of stones to hold it down. Someone recently posted a thread on how they made their own I think. They are not hard to make but also very cheap to actually buy one.

Thank you all for your kind words. Now I have settled down I realise it is not so bad (could have been a LOT worse) but I still feel violated and am most upset about my bookmark and book. Realised this morning I also have to buy a new hairbrush  I have cancelled the library card. That was funny actually as I went in and said I had just had my bag and wallet stolen so could they please cancel my card. The man said that wouldn't be a problem and he could issue me with a replacement immediately. Then asked "Do you have some ID on you?" "No", I replied, "It was stolen, I just told you that!" He laughed and said he should have realised that. Luckily I am a regular at our library and one of the other librarians vouched for me. I have heard of people's video hire cards being used to steal videos and game players but I don't have any of those cards. It is all the little things that are most upsetting plus it was my favourite black shoulder bag! When the insurance company asked if I wanted to make a claim on the bag I had to laugh (and so did she) when I told her it was a freebie from a Sex Expo I had been to so it didn't matter. It advertises one of ChCh's sex shops. The policeman thought that was funny too. Caper, you can get a plastic holder for your drivers licence and the holder attaches to a key chain. I don't always have my wallet with me and since you must always have your licence on you when driving I know I have it if it is with my keys.

I had my bag stolen at lunchtime. Lost house, car and work keys, wallet, a couple of books and my gloves. What is most upsetting is I was in the good part of the book and my place was held by a Harrods bookmark that had been a special gift from a dear friend Have reported to the police, cancelled cards etc. Got a ring later in the afternoon to say the keys had been handed in. A great relief as my drivers licence was also on the keyring and I was concerned something in the wallet had my address so I would have to change the locks. Luckily I had little cash in the wallet (about $5 at most) but cancelling everything is a pain and I am feeling very stressed. I don't know how people can do things like this

Yes goldfish in ponds semi hibernate. Once the water temp drops below 10C their digestive systems shut down. When the water warms again the systems slowly kick back in. Not usually a problem in an indoor tank.
-
I wondered if there is something in the water the old fish have got used to (assuming the water swap was done slowly) but new fish can't handle.

It is important to allow for substrate, rocks and decorations when working our volume. I will assume the white spot was a result of too many fish to start in a new tank otherwise it is also important to know why they got white sopt in the first place. If you do not correct the cause, they will get it again... and again... and again...
