  1. They can still have moods, or breeding inclinations, on their own Have a look at the fish from above. You can often tell male or female by the shape when looking down on them. Males are slimmer and very straight. Females tend to bulge a little on one side more than the other and it makes it look like their tail is a little off centre.
  2. Wow combined French and English reply. Very clever Deepsound :happy2: dyspepsia
  3. How does that fit squirt? No word in common
  4. Looks like a good idea. Too many people start off aiming too high then get discouraged.
  5. Mine are not fish related and unsuitable for a family forum
  6. I am totally useless at growing veg and find that by the time my pathetic, spindly looking things are ready to harvest (assuming they didn't die), a lot of people have too much and are always offering us their excess! The parsley in the garden died but the seeds that blew into the cracks in the concrete drive are thriving! I have been giving a lot away as I have more than I can use  Daughter has just started a number of seeds. She does it at school and gets the class interested too. The school has their own vege garden as well. I have a friend who managed to keep her family well supplied with vege by growing them all in buckets.
  7. Tell us more mcrudd. Is this an organised thing or something you have made up yourself? My weight is up a little thanks to my injury and the drugs I am on. I am sure, once I am back to full speed and off the meds, the weight will drop again.
  8. With that amount and the 2 days, I suggest it was the fish were too far gone and the dose too small to do anything for any meds to work, rather than blame the Wunder Tonic itself. The key to prevent most diseases is to keep the aquarium water top quality.
  9. What colour is the fish? Lighter colours tend to show up stuff like this more. Perhaps it is a mood thing, or breeding display?
  10. What do you call a "fancy" goldfish? Some of the types with short, fat, bodies have a tendency to swim bladder problems as their digestive system leaves something to be desired as a result of their breeding. 38L is not big enough for 2 goldfish as they grow large and produce a lot of waste. When you upgrade to a bigger tank, look at around 120L at least (a standard 3ft tank) if you plan to have 3 or more. Comets are best in a pond. Those with long flowing tails, or over developed eyes, that cannot swim very far or fast, are OK in slightly smaller tanks.
  11. Only one turtle survived &c:ry
  12. Lack of sleep? Partying too hard? Can you take a pic?
  13. I was just listening to an interview with one of the firefighters. They say they don't know about the fish yet as they have not been able to get in but since the building is pretty much destroyed, I doubt any survived. &c:ry The last Aquarium World has pics from the Tasman/Marlborough fish clubs' recent visit. I have always enjoyed going there and it was one of the greatest little aquariums in the country. They have been lucky to save the rest of the buildings since most are all joined together!
  14. I liked it better before the part bits of dead animals went up

    The What's Up? thread.

We have a big and fancy new VTNZ that was set up here just a few years ago but I have always gone to a private testing station that has been in business for as long as I can remember and it is all they do so I know they are not failing things just so they can sell me a new part. I know most of the staff on a first name basis and have absolute faith in their vehicle checks. We have actually rarely failed a warrant as all our vehicles get regular service checks.
  16. Your daughter has no taste! The Flying Spaghetti Monster is a much better idea

    Fish ID please

Now they have settled into a proper tank, their colour has returned and they are indeed black widows. They were rather white widows for some time! :sml2: Thank you all for the input
  18. It is a Samoan term Ira and refers to biological males who have a strong feminine gender orientation.
  19. I had an anubias that sat and didn't grow for a number of years then suddenly took off. No idea why. Nothing in the tank had changed.
  20. The gravel will have some bacteria in it. I suspect the white lump is carp pox, an unsightly contagious disease goldfish get. Not sure if it transfers to other fish. It looks bad but is not harmful as far as I know. Sort of like warts in humans. As said, if you say where in Wgtn you are, I am sure someone here will be able to offer you some mature media, or squeezings.
  21. We used to have 2 axolotls that size in a tank the same dimensions. They kept biting each other's legs off
  22. Hi Sarah and welcome. There are many fish keepers in Wgtn who would be happy to give you some cycled filter media - saves you mucking about with ammonia! With 3 fish clubs, there is bound to one in your area that can help Have a look on our Home Page for details of these clubs. Post your location in your profile, that will help.
  23. We need some new, exciting, breeding certificates. This is your chance to design something. We had some great Membership Card designs so lets see how you do with these. There are some basics that must be adhered to; Certificates must be A5 They must have the FNZAS logo somewhere (I think zev can send you a good quality logo if you ask her nicely ) They need space for the person's name They need a line saying something like... Commendation Certificate (for 10, 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100 species) No edge to edge printing. 5mm clear edge all around Full colour Prize - a bag of choccy fish!! :happy2: PS. We may recreate them in a different programme if yours is not the best or you can do a concept and it can be created by someone else. Zev does not want them sent in on Publisher! If you use this wonderful programme :happy2:  save as a pdf or something or she will poke you with her pointy stick! Word is a no-no too as it apparently puts weird lines through the graphics  Again, use whatever programme you like then pdf it.
